OK, though GE is no longer a majority shareholder, I wonder if this has something to do with it?
But let’s assume the rumors are true. What reason would Immelt have for abandoning the Obama campaign?
“Back when he agreed to advise the Obama administration on economics, General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt told friends that he thought it would be good for GE and good for the country,” Gasparino writes in the New York Post. “A life-long Republican, Immelt said he believed he could at the very least moderate the president’s distinctly anti-business instincts.”
And although GE has greatly benefitted from its relationship with the U.S. government, gorging itself at the federal subsidies trough, Immelt is apparently dismayed that he can’t “fix” the president’s anti-business stance.
“…Immelt doesn’t think he’s had…much luck moderating the president’s fat-cat-bashing, left-leaning economic agenda of taxing businesses and entrepreneurs to pay for government bloat,” Gasparino writes.
To put it simply, Immelt has allegedly given up on the idea that he can move the left-leaning president towards the center, according to Immelt’s friends.
“The GE CEO, I’m told, is appalled by everything from the president’s class-warfare rhetoric to his continued belief that big government is the key to economic salvation,” Gasparino reports.
Another rube who’s caught on.
And Comcast may not care.
NBC & MSNBC still pounding a tape as “Shameless Mitt tries to get own name into chant of ‘Ryan! Ryan!'” … When even the NYT has reported (correctly) that there were (1) people chanting ‘Romney! Romney!’ 30 seconds prior (so, no lack of Romney appreciation), and (2) that there were people chanting ‘Romney! Romney!’ -during- the Ryan intro.
Romney’s clip is “Guys, it’s Romney-Ryan, Romney-Ryan”. With Ryan waving him off like ‘Hey, no biggie.'”
But (MS)NBC’s response is as if Romney’s butting in to a massive ‘Ryan Ryan Ryan’ chant just to step in front of someone else’s parade.
There’s a hell of a difference between a person that’s stepping in to say “Hey, it’s Romney-Ryan, Romney-Ryan” and a guy that’s saying “Hey, it’s Romney-Ryan, Romney-Ryan.”
One would be a complete ass.
There -is- someone that loves jacking other people’s parades somewhere around here, but not a word of -that- reported.
Thing is, Comcast now calls the shots for NBC, they own the 51% stake. GE is now just along for the ride.
Obama inherited a bad economy and made it worse.
So (with apologies to Vladimir Lenin), Immelt now regrets that he sold Obama the rope with which he and the other capitalists will be hanged. This would be funny except that they sold out the birthrights of all other Americans along with it.
Immelt and GE pandered to the left and reaped the rewards. If the Republicans had any cajones, (good luck with that) they’d punish GE severely and make such an example of them so that next time a corporatist President gets elected, companies would think twice about getting in bed with them.
I wonder if Immelt might be starting to worry about that scenario?
I’d be a bit more impressed if GE hadn’t made war on the middle class when Jack Welch was CEO. That man (who has a Ph.D. in chemical engineering) fired thousands of engineers from GE and treated the ones remaining rather badly. He got rich — and a lot of people’s lives were made rich. Even GE stockholders are now suffering. The raise in stock prices has now collapsed.
We need real free enterprise — not the crony capitalism of GE, Jack Welch and others.
Immelt should be one of the rent seeking, statist villains in “Atlas Shrugged”.
I’m more interested in what Leno said. While Letterman is living in a lovely fantasy world of “everything’s just swell with the O man in charge”, Leno (a blue collar guy with a very white collar job) seems to see the world a bit more realistically. Interesting.
