  1. In order for men to practice birth control, they have a few choices.

    1) Abstain.

    2) non vaginal sex.

    3) Condoms

    4) surgical

    5) sterile partners.

    Condoms tend to be cheap.

    For women the choices are

    1) Require partners to wear condoms effectively.

    2) Sponges.

    3) Gels/foams

    4) surgery

    5) pills

    6) IUD

    7) diaphrams

    8) abstain

    9) non-vaginal sex.

    10) sterile partners.

    11) Abortion.

however for women, aside from condoms, most of the medical options tend to be expensive.

a man can have a vasectomy as an outpatient basis, for $400-$1000.
A woman has to have a tubal ligation at $1500-$6000.

Condoms are cheap, you can get them free at many public health clinics and they aren’t too pricy
    even at the Pharmacy.

But Oral Contraceptives and IUDs are pricy because they need doctors to prescribe and
    dispense them.

The most effective birth control is an IUD or oral contraceptives.
Oral contraceptives can run $50/month easy plus a doctors appointment 2x/year.

Consequently that higher cost for women, makes it more likely they will
either want intervention to make the costs lower or they will look towards
    other sources of payment.

    That’s just human behaviour.

    want to

The burden for having a child is much higher for a woman.

Well, then, there’ s your problem. Just get government out of the way and let people buy whatever medicine they want.

I’ll just point out that you only mention the high end. Planned Parenthood indicates that several different methods can cost as little as $15 per month to as much as your mentioned $50 per month (for frequently taken contraceptives in the forms of the pill, patch, and vaginal ring). One of the problems with subsidizing birth control is that it allows insurees to pick expensive birth control systems which they wouldn’t otherwise use.

This is a microcosm of one of the fundamental problems of Obamacare – it drives up demand for health care.

  2. dn-guy can you tell me the glaring problem with your, oh let’s call it analysis?

It seems to be predicated on unmarried casual partners. Let’s see how being married changes things…

It becomes a joint responsibility of evenly yoked adults, not a unbalanced burden. Unless you were foolish enough to marry a non adult. How does being a fool make it someone else’s responsibility?

  3. As any good Women’s Studies feminist will tell you, men enslave women by getting them pregnant, thus forcing them to concede to the bondage of marriage so that their children will be taken care of. Birth control offers women the freedom of sec without consequences and the liberation of seeking support from the state rather than the stifling domination of a husband and supportive family structure.

The life of June Cleaver is slavery, the life of Julia is freedom.

If you disagree you are a sexist caveman.
