1. McCain is one of my state’s two senators. This recent issue does nothing to change my opinion of him, because I’ve utterly despised him for a long, long time.

   The idea of naming immigration reform after Ted Kennedy is hardly surprising; McCain’s 2006 try at amnesty was named McCain-Kennedy. So, here, McCain has come up with a strategy that massively turns off a huge chunk of the Republican party (who do not tend to think highly of Ted Kennedy or amnesty) in exchange for appealing to a lot of liberal dems (which amnesty does anyway). So, even if we ignore the issue itself, this is a move with tons of political downside with no upside.

   Dementia is possible, because McCain has been exhibiting such behaviors consistently for decades, on a variety of issues. On the other hand, McCain might just be plain old stupid. In all due fairness to Mr. MCain, I think we owe it to him to consider that these might not be mutually exclusive propositions, and thus might both be true.

2. John McCain on his worst day is smarter and braver then you.

   1. I have no doubt that he’s braver. There’s zero evidence that he’s smarter. Of course, a lobotimized fern is smarter than you.

   2. I have crapped things out the day after hitting the local Chinese Buffet that is both smarter and braver than you are. Likely better looking and better mannered too.

3. McCain wants to name an amnesty bill after a guy whose most famous attempt to help someone cross a border occurred at Chappaquiddick.

5. McCain was one of the Keating 5 and should have gone the way of DeConcini. The aftermath changed the course of my family when my mother could not get a commercial loan when she had an opportunity to buy the business she managed. It took years for banks to loosen up here in AZ.

   1. The fact that McCain was nominated to the Presidential ticket at all tells you a lot about the present state of the Republican party and the country as a whole.

   1. I liked McCain a lot when he was running in 2000. Gave him money for his run. Thought he would
      make an interesting candidate. By 2008, though McCain had aged badly and was deeply out of touch
      and had sacrificed his principles for some minor political advantage.

      In 2003, had McCain stood up and said “Torture is Immoral, unAmerican and ineffective” he could
      have moved the needle on the debate. Instead McCain cozied up to Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.

      BTW speaking of aging badly, out of touch and sacrificing principles for political advantage, take a look
      at Sec Clinton.
