There have been several city-killer-class impacts since 2001. We were just lucky they didn’t hit cities. And Chelyabinsk really dodged a bullet last year. You should support the B612 Foundation. Don’t expect the government to do anything about this.

Falling rocks may be a personal danger as well. Slashdot reports a sky-diver narrow miss on camera. See the original article here.
Nothing to worry about, space is empty.
I think that the danger of asteroid “city killers” and larger is one where we can rely on government to come up with a solution.
Clearly, the answer here is legislative, and the model already exists; state and city gun restriction laws. For example, gun-free zones. Therefor, the solution is intuitively obvious and should work equally well; legislation to declare (with severe penalties, including prison time, for even harmless infractions) near-earth space as an asteroid-free zone.
If an asteroid did violate such a law and wipe out one of our major cities, would the dead residents still vote Democrat?
Well, the lividity-challenged are a demographic that historically votes very heavily D, so I don’t see why they’d alter their voting patterns in this case.
