When an IRS audit found that the tax collection agency had been targeting conservative political groups, it was Ruemmler’s decision not to tell the president about the findings, in an attempt to shield Obama from charges he interfered in the investigation.
I wonder about the truth behind this statement. Obama’s chief counsel decided not to tell her boss about this? How would an attorney of the necessary caliber to achieve the post of White House Chief Counsel be this reckless? Wouldn’t it seem more likely that Ruemmler is throwing herself under the bus now in an attempt to create some kind of plausible deniability for Obama, that there would be some kind of quid pro quo in the future for keeping the President’s hands clean?
Presidents have the power to pardon people. Look for Obama to issue a lot of pardons (cough Holder) before leaving office. Also, the party establishment has many ways to take care of people when they leave office regardless of the circumstances. Don’t worry about her. She won’t go to jail. She won’t be disbarred. She will end up at a big law or lobbying firm pulling at least a 7 figure income. “A Lannister always pays his debts!”
