  1. Chris L:

“Wilco” is radio phrasing for “will comply” (with your last clearance or instruction). In aviation training, I got whapped on the side of the head for using “wilco” or “roger.” Modern civilian practice is to repeat or “read back” the clearance as in “ATC: Cessna two-three-eight-one Whiskey Tango turn right heading two-seven-zero” to which you reply “right two-seven-zero Whiskey Tango.” Notice that the reply distills the clearance along with the tail sign to a concise essence.

Some slang creeps into this — I heard people saying “Fox” instead of the correct “Foxtrot.” Do they still give out headsets to listen to ATC on airlines anymore to check up on ths? You used to be able to here exchanges just like this in rapid-fire succession.

    Whiskey Tango Fox indeed.

  2. Is the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot leveled as a questioning of Matt Yglesias’ tweet, or at the fact that it was posted over 8 months ago and is being brought up now?

  3. If for nothing else, one can always rely upon the Leftist commentariat for copious quantities of unintentional hilarity.
