  1. This is a serious problem with the structure of the government:

    If the head of the DOJ is appointed by the President and serves at the Prez’s pleasure, then that head is the tool of the Prez. As George Will pointed out, that’s why JFK picked RFK and Nixon picked his campaign manager (I think that was his position).

    What it means is that the Prez (of any party) needn’t fear serious investigation by the DOJ.

      How do you explain the fact that every president from Nixon to George W. Bush saw top officials face criminal prosecution? Is it possible that “the structure of the government” does not in fact protect the White House from serious investigation?

  2. In what seems to be yet another about-face, Justice Department lawyers Friday told Judicial Watch the elusive documents may have been saved, after all, on some type of government-wide backup system from which materials are difficult to retrieve.

    How long before the right wing media figures out that this “government-wide backup system” never existed? A month? A year?
