1. It’s called “Objectivism” because while you’re loudly objecting to the plausibility of the sci-fi, you’re silently accepting facts like industry is essential to human survival, which the Left really has a problem believing most of the time. There’s no-one coming out of watching Atlas Shrugged* saying it’d be better to go live in the Amazon, closer to nature.

    * I could stop that sentence right there. They’ve really done a disservice to Ayn Rand by turning her life’s work into a crappy trilogy.

  2. I just looked it up and I see that two different actors have played him in the first two movies, so about Part III I must ask: Who plays John Galt?

  3. The levels of negativity amongst some parts of the commentariat are monumental. 20 years ago there was almost *nothing* in the theatres that fit our world view. Now it’s nothing but complaints that its not good enough for some particular criteria that does not even apply to 99.9% of the audiences who will watch it.

There are just too many Marvin’s out there. Get a life guys.

    1. Oh fuckin’ please, Dale. Having people have to actually read a book or two (a very big book or two, no less) to gain the philosophy of Ayn Rand will do wonders compared to this completely horrible attempt at film making. If ya want “our world view” in theaters, make movies that don’t suck – preferably new movies that people actually want to watch. There’s a lot of fantastic moral arguments in Atlas Shrugged, each one of them would have made a good movie, if you put together a new story for each. But no. These crappy films have probably turned more people off to Objectivism than anything else. All the Liberal bashing of Ayn Rand is easily retorted compared to “I saw that movie, it sucked.”

  4. It was a torrid romance novel. At least three of them, by my count. It was the most Harlequin-y romanced novel I ever read.

But, it was worth it. I wish I had kept someone’s blog post from a few years ago where they compared one of O’s speeches to one of Rand’s characters. It read virtually word for word. Anyone can disparage her works all they like, but as far as I am concerned, she really nailed some fundamental characteristics of self-destructive human psychology in them.

      1. Honestly, I thought the first one was pretty good. The second was OK, but the change of cast was a bit jarring. We’ll see how the 3rd goes.

  5. Her review might have been amusing (even coming from a lefty) had she based her snark on more than a shallow and wildly (willfully?) erroneous understanding of the source material. As is, her hatred and contempt for her subject seeps through, something which spoils attempts at humor.

The lack of self-awareness in claiming there aren’t any films with comparably blatant lefty propaganda is pretty funny, though. But I don’t think she meant that as a joke.

    1. It’s like she has never seen a sci -fi, drama, comedy, romance, spy, thriller, war, or documentary over the last twenty years.

  6. PAUL!?, ASV is all about the RD180. But it’s a new screenplay and you haven’t written it yet.

I’m reminded of alternate Spock w/ beard and the study that showed those on the right could imitate those on the left but not the reverse. We need to reach out to those that have dysfunctional brains yet are encouraged to vote.

Trent is right. Popular culture teaches or turns off. We need good teaching materials for the Jay Leno, jay walking crowd.

  7. Atlas Shrugged was a Romantic novel, not a romance novel. The word “romantic” has changed somewhat over the years.
