  1. The commenters to the linked article aren’t nearly as optimistic as the author. With good reason, I’d add.

  2. 2014 was a good year for me. I achieved some personal goals in my life. Hope for a good New Year for all, with Obama all we have is hope thanks to his changes…

  3. It was a year of extremes for me compared to other recent years. Some very difficult personal and other events interspersed with some outstandingly good times.

I’ve decided to blame the “extremes” on climate change effects… 😉

  4. 2014 was mostly good. 2015 has the potential to be excellent, especially if my vision of the road ahead is reasonably good. One problem though, is that potential in a year, just as potential in a job, employee, or anything else you can think of translates all too often to, “Ain’t done a useful durn thing yet”.

  5. Happy New Year Rand and thans for the blog.

Happy New Year to everyone who reads and/or posts here.

  6. Personally, last year wasn’t bad at all. 2013, now, *that* was a bad year; I shattered my right leg, needed surgeries, plates and screws, etc. 2014 was a darned good year for me- I lived through it (!) and got back almost all functionality in the leg, work was good, kids good. Honestly, if this year ends up being as positive as last year, it’ll be two good ones in a row since, well, I can’t remember when.

The country, of course, is hosed. But we can have a few good laughs at the lunacy as we fall into the pit.

Happy new year to all, and thanks, Rand, for your blog.

  7. I’d have been happier with the graphs at the link if they weren’t all trailing indicators. Any suggestions for what the leading indicators would be? For developed economies, I’d nominate percentage of outlays devoted to entitlements and debt-to-GDP ratios. In general, I’d look at arable land, cereal yields per arable land, and fresh water reserves. If you could find unbiased and absolute indices of freedom, they’d be handy, too.

  8. I predict that in 2015 there will be some scandal in the Obama thugocracy (a scandal, that is, to those of us who vcalue liberty and remember that this country was supposed to be the Land of the Free and not the Land of the State-cultists) ; and that Baghdad Jim will be showing up here the nanosecond after the scandal breaks to do his usual party-line, knee-jerk defense of Dear Leader and his minions; Admiral Gerrib of the SS Stockholm Syndrome will show up with on of his usual syllogism-benders; and that Sidetrack Bob-1 will try to hijack the thread by calling our attention to something not really germane to the discussion.

I know; I’m going WAAAAAYYY out on a limb here, but what the heck . . . .

    1. So, like, you’re sayin’ that 2015 won’t be in the least bit any different from 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, and 2009? Bummer . . .

  9. Happy New Year, Rand.
As with airplane landings, I consider any year I can walk away from to be more-or-less a good year.
