Last Week’s Little-Noticed Space Triumph

Thoughts from Instapundit on the FAA’s lunar move.

You know what else wasn’t reported much? The problems with SLS/Orion in the ASAP report. All the focus was on “lack of transparency” in commercial crew.

[Update a while later]

More thoughts from Tom Meyer.

[Early-afternoon update]

  1. …to recognize property rights in extracted resources from celestial bodies…

Because actual real estate with full mineral rights would involve actual liberty which govt. just can’t allow. To say this is just govt. handling its international oversight obligations is more baloney.

They have jurisdiction over launches (unfortunately) but they have zero jurisdiction over celestial bodies because that is a sovereign claim which violates the treaty. You can’t have it both ways.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying about the moon being too close. They have absolutely zero interest in the value of land appreciating by private ownership, but total interest in regulating it (which Sowell points out, is a taking.)

Get yer ass to mars. Claim it. Establish martian law. Do it before any govt. knows it’s done (or find a liberty loving country on earth to provide even more legitimacy.)
