  1. As someone who has hung around artsy people most of his life, I know from experience that they think of themselves as “free spirits” and “rebels” when polticially they are lockstep State-cultists. So there should be any number of comedians, humorists, comic actors, etc., willing to step into Stewart’s shoes and become Court Jester for Der Staat.

    1. Lefty boomers are obsessed with the idea that Millennials are Hippie 2.0. It’s fun to watch the aging ponytail brigade lavish Woodstock Era adjectives on this generation. It’s doubly fun when I remember how angry they got when they learned that X-ers were conservative.

  2. I’m no Cronkite lover, far from it, especially his later nuttiness. But comparing Cronkite and Stewart, as journalists / reporters / voices of their generation, only scores on the last count, sadly for Stewart’s watchers.

That also means we can compare anything hanging on the wall of the Louvre and a Sponge Bob Coloring Book AS being equal and valuable artistic examples.

  3. As I noted over there, the man did come up with some good satire upon occasion. But a news man? No.

Does anyone have real numbers on how many people actually see his show as news? Just wondering.
