Climate Activists

You people lost the scientific argument. Get over it:

Essex said that there seems to be a cultural shift and that scientific arguments have deteriorated. Individuals in society have moved away from “civilized dialogues in which people have a collegial attitude and work together to try to find the truth.” Essex characterized the pro-climate change philosophy as a form of sophistry, catering to popular opinion rather than being concerned with the truth.

You don’t say.

  1. Anywhere you see the Marxist infiltration of an institution you find the breakdown of civility.

Huntington has stated that Islam has bloody borders. Marxism is no different.

  2. “. . . political activists, who undermine scientists for not embracing climate change theology, have crossed a line by making direct political attacks on regular scientists, like Willie Soon.”

“it is time to leave the scientists alone.” Essex explained

The hypocrisy, given the abuse that people like Mann, Hansen and many, many others in the pro AGW camp have had to endure from “skeptics”, is disgusting.

    1. Tu quoque. Always a weak argument, as it effectively admits wrongdoing, stamping one’s feet and whining, childlike, “he did it first!” Well, maybe he did, and maybe he didn’t, but you surely did it, so go to your room.

    2. The hypocrisy, given the abuse that people like Mann, Hansen and many, many others in the pro AGW camp have had to endure from “skeptics”, is disgusting.

I would take your post more seriously, if you didn’t start with the worst of the lot. Mann in particular seeks out abuse with sloppy research (often abusing other scientists’ work in the process), bizarre and viciously aggressive Twitter behavior (including a habit of publicly accusing other climate researchers of being “denialists” just for mildly disagreeing with Mann in public), and a long history of being a total dick.

Hansen is just a mandarin who owes his former position as head of NASA GISS to having the right outspoken opinion on global warming for twenty years. Then when he retired, he cleaned up with almost two million dollars in revenue over a few year period. I really feel for the abuse he has endured.

Then we get to the pro-AGW people like Judith Curry who just didn’t wholeheartedly embrace the full beliefs package. Funny how they got more abuse from the pro-AGW side than anywhere else.

      1. “who just didn’t wholeheartedly embrace the full beliefs package.”

There is no room for dissent. You can’t just believe in all or part of the AGW propaganda, you have to meet the enthusiasm hurdle.

    3. I think most of us would leave the scientists alone if they let us alone. However, by advocating drastic political and economic changes, they have forced us to react. You don’t see scientists who study quantum mechanics promoting cap and trade.

      Mann states:

For example, should we go full-bore on nuclear power? Invest in and deploy renewable energy — wind, solar and geothermal — on a huge scale? Price carbon emissions through cap-and-trade legislation or by imposing a carbon tax? Until the public fully understands the danger of our present trajectory, those debates are likely to continue to founder.
