Yuri’s Night

If you’re in LA, this is the place to be.

Don’t go in hopes of seeing me. I can’t see spending money to be tortured with awful, loud music. But if you’re into that sort of thing, and what passes for dancing in this society, knock yourself out.

No, this has nothing to do with me being old (though I do seem, unaccountably, to be aging). I’ve never been into clubbing, or awful, loud music. The twenty-year-old me wouldn’t have gone, either.

  1. Yeah, I remember you leaving the NewSpace bash when the music got turned up.. Andrew and I could barely hear each other when we were zinging the Socialism In Space woman and her ugly friend.

    1. I use those too in these kinds of events. It is kind of moronic really. People use ear plugs and communicate via SMS or instant messaging. WTF.

  2. The DC version is usually a lot of fun. Tim and Jen Bailey have put it on the past few years, and it’s been smashing…especially the trivia contest. Some of the kids are incredibly smart.

  3. Off course since I’m a once and future musician, I was one of those who made the loud awful music and had a wonderful time doing it. I survived standing in front of an amplifier stack for years, so dance music holds no qualms for me. In fact, where ever I live, I seek out the rock venue’s and still hang out with my fellow musicians.

    Your mileage obviously varies 🙂

  4. Oh, and as I told Rand on the phone the other day, I’ll be there and talking ISDC business with assorted NSS folks.

  5. I went to Countdown to Yuri’s Night at the Artisphere — right across the river from DC on Saturday. I enjoyed my time there, as I think others did. Oh — the main event is a musical comedy with space themes. This show is not for kids. Quite a few people came. I didn’t see any local space people that I would recognize.

I have uploaded my 826 photos to Flickr. You can find them at Countdown to Yuri’s Night 2015. Hope people like them.
