  1. I can just see it now:

    Dear Penthouse:

I never thought I’d be writing to you, but then I read this article:

“The evolutionary explanation of female orgasm has been difficult to come by. The orgasm in women does not obviously contribute to the reproductive success, and surprisingly unreliably accompanies heterosexual intercourse. Two types of explanations have been proposed: one insisting on extant adaptive roles in reproduction, another explaining female orgasm as a byproduct of selection on male orgasm, which is crucial for sperm transfer….”

    1. I was imagining the grant proposal.

I, learned professor ____ of esteemed university X, would like to do a broad, deep, exploratory study of whether there is any statistically significant correlation between female orgasm and pregnancy in the species homo sapiens sapiens. I estimate a minimum of 31 participants for each plausible co-variable, leading to a requirement of around 3000 participants. Going buy the student scientific study volunteer payscale, this would be 3000x$50, or $150,000. This study should take around 5 years to complete, unless your agency is willing to pony up an additional $20,000 in pharmaceutical enhancements.

      1. They got funding for this from both the March of Dimes and the John Templeton Foundation. They must have written the greatest grant proposal in history.
