I’m a campaign volunteer. Technically I’m a volunteer for the NH Democrats’s coordinated campaign, supporting all the Dem candidates in the race. It isn’t glamorous — yesterday one of my state legislative representatives and I went through walk packets (the paperwork that door-to-door canvassers take out), crossing out the entries that shouldn’t be visited again (e.g. because the person told a previous canvasser that they don’t want to be bothered again). On other days I’ve been the one going door to door, or entering the data collected by canvassers into the VoteBuilder website, one click at a time. Because we’re a swing state, for both the Presidency and the Senate, we’ve had various semi-famous people stop by — I think astronaut Mark Kelly was at the office today. And we’ve had lots of volunteers from nearby states where the races aren’t as close (MA, VT, CT). According to Robby Mook, the Clinton campaign manager who grew up near here, we’ve knocked on over 400,000 doors in New Hampshire in the last week. There are only about 500,000 households in NH, and at this point in the race we’re only visiting people likely to support Democrats, so that tells you that we’re visiting houses repeatedly (we’ve had 2 visits from Dem canvassers at our own door this week).
I’ve been doing this since Obama’s primary campaign began in 2007, and I’ve never seen any corruption or illegal activity. Just a lot of hard working citizens exercising their rights, on both sides of the political spectrum.
