  1. What a disgusting looking creature.

But Dsup indeed sounds promising as a means of making humans rad-hard. In addition to facilitating space travel, it would make nuclear war a great deal more fun.

I imagine people will be saying terrible things like “I wonder if I can hit Moscow from here”. No. No. No. I won’t be a part of this… for a couple more beers.

  2. Just have to make sure that cancer cells don’t inherit the ability when they go rogue, or else you may make radiation-hardened tumors…

  3. Interesting.
    Never read Futurism.com before.
However, their article on radioactive “diamond” batteries (which I had recently heard were a thing) was so bizarre that I wonder if they can be trusted as even a secondary source for anything.

  4. Engineering this protein into humans may be problematic. I bet it affects gene expression, which will have major effects on development. Tardigrades will of course have evolved so that their developmental program works in the presnce of these proteins.

I could see it being added to crop plants to make them more radiation resistant. This could be useful for growing plants in space, if they no longer need radiation shielding. And on earth, radiation-resistant plants could allow use of gamma radiation for pest control.

    1. Have you learned nothing from B movies?!!!!

Using gamma radiation for pest control will just create giant mutant super pests!
