“Fake News”

The primary purveyors of it are those complaining the most:

John Nolte of the Daily Wire helpfully points out that the media has been totally fine spreading fake news in the past, such as the false narrative that Ferguson teen Michael Brown held up his hands and asked a white police officer not to shoot him. The “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative was a lie, but some in the media and on the left still parrot the claim, even after forensic evidence proved it wrong.

Nolte notes that the media narrative of racist white police officers (or black police officers with internalized racism) out to get unarmed black men has resulted in the targeting of innocent police officers. So yes, fake news can be dangerous, but until now the media has been more than okay in spreading it.

There are several additional, high profile examples of the media promoting the spread of fake news, though these examples thankfully have not resulted in physical harm.

I don’t want to hear anything about “fake news” from the people who defended Dan “Fake But Accurate” Rather.

  1. “The primary purveyors of it are those complaining the most”

A constant trait of the Left these days.

  2. Another indication of this is the term, “post-truth”, hearkening back to the nostalgic era where people got their fake news from reliable, institutional custodians of truth who would give you only the fake news that was good for you.

What’s particularly annoying about these things is that they don’t even try to convince someone that this stuff is for real. It’s just more virtue signalling.

  3. As Glenn Reynolds wrote on Instapundit, when someone is asking you to shut up, it means they’re actively trying to shut you up.

  4. If I didn’t know how stupid SJWs are, I’d be amazed that they ever thought this was a good idea. The Fake News Media have literally killed millions and destroyed entire countries with their stories in the past.

    1. Hmm, stupid you say. Surely Democrats have learned their lesson about abuse of government power and then turning those powers over to the opposition.

Oh, wait! The election is over and power is in transition but they are still calling on Obama to crack down on the media while journolists fantasize about assassinating those who engage in bad think. Quick Obama, act before you are out of office and Trump takes over…
