  1. I watched the phone call, but didn’t read Kluger’s review of it. The whole thing was creepy and awkward, and I kind of feel bad for Dr. Whitson, who behaved orders of magnitude more dignified and professional than anybody else in that charade.

Anyways, congrats, Dr. Whitson – I’ll toast you to a future where having humans clock 650 days in space elicits no more pomp and circumstance than passing 100k miles on the odometer.

  2. If Trump wants to get Human’s to Mars before the end of his first term, NASA isn’t going to get the job done.

  3. How would a veto improve the situation for NASA? Think about how the drive by media would spin that?

As for militarization of space. Why pretend it isn’t a real issue?

Who cares? It would have at least indicated that he’d actually read the legislation. But I know that you don’t care about things like that. Because you don’t care that we have an ignoramus as a president.

      1. You’d rather have some wonk fool you with spin? Before calling someone ignorant why not wait for the results?

So you can tell us how he just accidentally got things right.

        …and keeps being so lucky.

Do you have any clue about what he’s already accomplished that the media studiously ignores?

We all like laughing at how dumb Maxwell Smart was, but in the real world, anyone with that kind of repeated success is not ignorant.

One day he will actually get something wrong. I expect you’ll be right on top of that.

I got the impression he was just asking the astronaut for her opinion on things and then cracking a joke about wanting to do things sooner while knowing that they can’t.

Overreactions of the press by suddenly not understanding the English language or how actual people talk and interact is exactly how we got Trump.

Actual criticism of something critical would be nice but instead we get Onion level analysis. I thought Trump would bring journalism back round to being more professional but instead they went full retard.

  4. You know the drill. Offer a $10bln prize to anyone who can land a human crew on the surface of Mars before sunset, Jan. 20, 2025. Runner up gets $5bln, third place $1bln. The $18bln can come out of NASA’s budget.

In the past, this was a silly idea. But, at the moment, there are at least two men in position to win those prizes. ITS could be ready in time. New Glenn would at least be able to assemble a ship in LEO for the attempt. NASA can be in charge of unmanned outer solar system exploration for another generation or two.
