  1. The left are too stupid to realize they’re the old political shell that’s about to be swept aside by the tides of history. They’d rather lose a civil war than give up what power they have.

And lose it, they will: the right can survive without the left, but the left can’t survive without the right. Ultimately, that’s all that matters.

  2. I don’t know why you guys are so vociferous about differences that have little substance. I’ve never seen so little difference between major political parties as in the USA. Perhaps that’s it actually, politicians have to shout louder so people think they’re different somehow.

    1. We’re not talking about political parties. We’re talking about people.

The New Left abandoned class politics in favor of identity politics. Now every major Western nation is a collection of identity groups all fighting for power.

      It can’t end well.

      1. I’m kind of old Left/Christian conservative so I can’t say I understand all these stupid wars about bathrooms, gay marriage, and stupid pointless idiot things like that.

I think the answers to all the real issues are quite simple really. Because people live longer, we increase the retirement age, and there should be a push to simplify higher education so people spend less time on it (I suppose I shouldn’t be saying this as I’m a college teacher who mostly caters for masters students but whatever). There should be more professional apprenticeships and most people don’t need more than a bachelor degree to work. The increased health care expenditure, at least in the USA, could be made cheaper if they forced the healthcare practitioners to have a public price table, regardless if someone is insured or not, similar to any other business establishment.
As for the proposals for the universal basic income, because we can, or because of robots or whatever, I’ve seen that proposed both by libertarians and the left, so it’s not like it’s an idea exclusive to the left.

You have to remember that with increased automation back when the Industrial Era was in full swing, several things happened, it’s probably useful that people read about the chartism movement to get an idea. Workers demanded more political power (right to vote), less working hours, and more work protections. Children stopped working and started going to school so adults had more jobs available.

Imagine the USA for example. One could lower working hours to like 35 hours a week so more people would have a job. Pay parents to stay at home and have more kids to reduce also increase the amount of jobs and lower the average age of the population so elder care would be easier. Demand to replace part of the house of congress’s duties with direct vote via an e-democracy platform (if people have all that spare time why not? Greeks could do it because of all the slaves they had) and pay them to attend sessions. That’s it.

        1. One could lower working hours to like 35 hours a week so more people would have a job.

Lower that too much and you’ll just make more people with two or more jobs.

There isn’t really a point to these laws. If I want to work 60 or more hours a week (and there have been times in my life when I did want to do so), law shouldn’t be in my way. We also need to keep in mind that there isn’t a fixed amount of work in this world. People who work more routinely create more demand for work.

        2. I can’t say I understand all these stupid wars about bathrooms, gay marriage, and stupid pointless idiot things like that.

These issues are put forward to create maximum conflict rather than out of genuine concern for people. Don’t get me wrong, people have genuine concern but that is harnessed to create maximum conflict.

Forcing people to participate in other’s ideological ceremonies isn’t to benefit the people who want those ideological ceremonies but to punish and control people. The bathroom stuff is much the same.

    2. The war wouldn’t be between the Democratic and Republican parties.

It would be between progressives and conservatives.

And I’d say there is a lot of difference there.

      1. If civil war happens anywhere in the West, this won’t be a nice, civilized civil war like America’s first. It will be a war between all the numerous identity groups the left have created and set in conflict with each other. Many of which will simply be wiped out.

Think Yugoslavia, except without anyone to step in and stop the fighting.

    3. From our perspective, the differences (at least between the “extreme” right of Republicans, and the “extreme” left of the Democrats) are immense, in terms of policy, and their implications.

  3. Talking about 2nd Amendment, I heard something that the new White House Communication Director is a (gun) grabber? Anyone know anything about this?

    1. It’s based on his (recent) past opinions. But Trump loyalists won’t care about that, or his other Leftist positions (like hoping Hillary would be president, and contributing money to that). Because the life-long Democrat Trump is now their God King.

      1. You’re almost right Rand, but you have no clue why. A God/king delusion doesn’t explain anything.

I will be shocked if you come up with the real reason they don’t care (because they certainly are concerned.) I hear the concern regarding everyone that Trump has around him.

The civil war is already in full swing, but will probably not become a gun battle (other than the occasional nutjob asking if those are republicans playing baseball?)

The left wants power and knows a gunfight will not get it for them.

  4. It would be a war like none in recent times, because one side thinks whining to mommy is a military strategy and that bread and milk come from a grocery store.

When one side has a mindset like that, and the skills and equipment to match, we really don’t call them wars. It’s more like complete helplessness in the face of a superior force set on invasion and conquest, and those go down in the history books as something like “The Chinese Annexation of Tibet”, not the “Chinese-Tibetan War.”

See the European colonial powers taking over much of the planet for other examples.

    1. I don’t disagree with your analysis but there is one other factor to consider: The left might call on other progressive nations to assist them. Imagine the UN, EU or China invading the US.

      A target-rich environment, certainly..but not a cakewalk

      1. The UN’s military is basically… America and some hangers-on. So they’re out.

The EU isn’t going to be invading anyone any time soon. Certainly not America.

China… maybe, but they don’t really have the navy required to ship troops, tanks and planes all that way. Maybe they could load them onto container ships.

But it’s unlikely, anyway. The left would be eating each other a few days after the power and water was cut off to the ‘blue’ cities.

        1. Besides, if the United States was tied up in a civil war, the EU would be too busy trying to fend off Putin to step in.

  5. Well, the Europeans can barely field an army in Europe, and I don’t think they’ll be in a hurry to alienate the Americans who fight all the wars.

I figure the left will give up when their lattes run out, or shortly after their power gets cut off and the result is mass looting from the usual urban suspects. Then they’ll demand a rule change on the whole combat thingy because it’s not fair if just one side has all the food, guns, and gas.

  6. I don’t think the right has the willingness to fight a civil war. They will, as they have thus far, bow to the use of leftist power and do as they are told. As evidence for this, I present their behaviour up to this moment. The right always imagines joining in some kind of declared war with defined sides and objectives, fighting gun-toting leftists. Not a single one of them imagines themselves involved before that point, in the period where it’s neighbors murdering each other, local politicians having their families hanged in the street and so on. And because that’s how it has to start, the right will never start it.

    1. Not a single one of them imagines themselves involved before that point, in the period where it’s neighbors murdering each other, local politicians having their families hanged in the street and so on.

So we should be waging civil war now because the conditions to justify it may exist at some point in the future? My view is that war shouldn’t be entered into lightly and that there are plenty of options in a democratic society for resisting leftist power and other such things without resorting to bloodshed.

    2. The right don’t want war while there are other options. Unlike the left, they understand what war means.

But when I visit right-wing blogs, I regularly see Americans discussing when (not if) the war will start. ‘When Trump is impeached’ or ‘when they come to confiscate the guns’ seem to be the top two answers.

    3. Not a single one of them imagines themselves involved before that point, in the period where it’s neighbors murdering each other, local politicians having their families hanged in the street and so on. And because that’s how it has to start, the right will never start it.

I agree with this. The right will not start this activity but they will respond to it. We are not too far away from Democrats lynching people in the streets. The organized and unorganized violence from Democrats over the last year has almost reached this point.

Dozens of assaults at every protest, protests from coast to coast, mass vandalism, riots, millions in property damage, tens of thousands of militant activists, hundreds of thousands of protesters, numerous attacks against politicians, just as many attacks against speakers, and even an attempted mass assassination of congresspeople.

The Democrats are already well down the path and we have seen some responses to their violence from people defending themselves at events.

    1. Not really. Industrial production led to big, centralized factories and big, centralized government, with big, centralized socialism. Post-industrial production will be decentralized, which will lead to decentralized government and no place for socialism.

In the long run, the right will win because there’s no place for the left in a post-industrial world. But the intervening years are likely to get pretty nasty.

  7. It is because the right won’t start the war, that they will lose it. The left aren’t going to make a provocation so serious that there is no choice but armed rebellion by the entire population. Freedoms will be taken away gradually, compliance forced on us… gradually. At no point will anyone be able to point to any single incident and say it is justification for murdering those involved or for a general uprising. By the time the right thinks it is justified it will be far, far too late and the left will have already done everything they need to. Most people will be too afraid of what might be done to their families to openly resist the government once it becomes clear that they intend to do evil.

The right is waiting for the defining moment to start the fight and they will never get it.
