Jeff Sessions

So Trump called him an idiot, and told him to quit? Well, he is, and he should. But why does he still have his job? For someone who became famous in part for publicly firing people, Trump sure seems to have a hard time actually doing it.

[Update a couple minutes later]

Speaking of idiots, Joe Biden is saying that people who support due process under the law are just like Nazis. Right.

    1. I agree. Its not hard to doubt, except for the fact it came out of the NYT.

There’s also not a lot of reason to fire AG Sessions just now. Koskinen… but not Sessions, and if Trump isn’t firing Koskinen, then other things Session may be dragging his feet on doesn’t bother me as much, so no hurry to ditch him without a clear alternative like Giuliani ready to come on board.

But right now, I’m disappointed in Sessions and won’t care if he is shown the door.

  1. Attorney General Sessions is still at his post because of me — I called or e-mailed Senator Ron Johnson, the White House and I emailed DOJ strongly encouraging Mr. Sessions to stand his ground.

OK, not just me but the multitude of like-minded people who invoked our 1st Amendment rights.

Rand, I take it you have reached out to your representatives telling them that you hold the Attorney General in low esteem and asking that Mr. Sessions step down? Didn’t you?

  2. after being advised that yet another high-level departure would make matters worse

Putting the lie to Trump not listening to advice.Sessions isn’t just an employee. His replacement has to be confirmed… so no A.G. for another year?

Nice to see that Rand agrees with Trump about Sessions?

  3. Considering the turnover, Trump doesn’t have a problem firing people. Firing Sessions will get criticism and so will keeping him on. I am upset that the DOJ isn’t going after Lerner and other cases of abuse by the Obama administration but I am not sure we can blame Sessions for that.

Guys, we have the power on our side

This is true. Even though Democrats are out of power, they are technically in power. They control the government workforce and have turned colleges into reeducation camps. With a firm grasp over the media, they control what people know about events and also prevent other people from speaking through the use of corporate censorship.

Everyone needs to warn the young women that creepy Uncle Joe visiting colleges. The media isn’t going to rush to their defense when he engages in some light petting, they will destroy the victim.

    1. I am not sure we can blame Sessions for that.

A.G. is, in theory, supposed to act independent of the president Trump gets trashed at even the suggestion it might be otherwise (not a problem with democrats who are blatant about it.)

So yeah, I blame Sessions and I blame Trump for not finding someone to take the job seriously (and with adult perspective.) I really blame those that make it difficult for Trump to hire trial subjects until he finds the right person.

I’m buying my torch, pitchfork, tar and feathers before the price gouging begins.

A.G., like all cabinet officers, serve at the pleasure of the president.

Crazy idea. Trump should give a little research and thought to whom he hires, instead of doing it by trial and error. But that would be too difficult and novel an approach for him.

        1. Holding Trump up to a god-like standard is hardly constructive. Every President, every large organization, has to deal with personnel issues.

Or not, if they evade them. E.g., Obama’s picks were uniformly less than ideal. One difference is, he kept them. Also, Trump has had some outstanding picks.

  4. Ace captures my feeling

Lastly, in the face of the revelations about Obama and his flunkies using the instrumentalities of government to attack, punish and sabotage their political enemies, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is evidently going to do, for lack of a better word, nothing. I have tried my best to defend Sessions here as he was the first GOP senator to endorse candidate Trump and in the beginning was an absolute hawk on immigration and the rule of law. And yet, out of the box, he shoved the President under the bus by recusing himself from the phony Russia hack/collusion investigation and opened the door for the kangaroo court that is aiming to take PDT out, or neuter the agenda come hell or high water. It is Sessions’ duty to go after this criminality, which is unprecedented in American history and it is evident that he is neither capable nor willing to do so. And in abrogating that responsibility he is in effect aiding and abetting the breakdown of trust in our law enforcement and governmental agencies. This is a cancer on our nation and society and he is letting it consume us. For the good of the nation, Jeff Sessions must resign and make way for someone who will pick up the gauntlet and prosecute those who violated their sacred oaths to the nation an rule of law. Personally, I would love to see someone like J. Christian Adams as AG. But if Sessions refuses to go, President Trump must fire him. For his sake and the sake of the nation and the rule of a just and stable law.
