I had terrible flights, today. I have a cold, so I was miserable to start. Then at DCA, Americans delayed my flight to Phoenix, then had me go to a different terminal to catch it, while changing my seat from my window toward the front to a center toward the rear(with no explanation), with a woman in the window seat who had zero interest in what was going on outside, so I spent over four hours in a semi-claustrophobic condition. (As an aside, I’m kind of astonished at how many people in window seats have zero curiosity and desire to see where they are, keeping shades down throughout).
Then, when I get to Phoenix, my connection to LA is delayed three hours, which is why I have time to bitch about it. But I hope I’ll be home soon, with Patricia and the cats, after being gone for over a week.

I’m with you on this. Such a shame! I think it is because most people today keep their nose buried in a screen all day, so the window is nothing but unwanted glare.
I’ve often wondered how long it will be before aircraft mfgs start replacing windows with flatscreens anyway.
If you want to use them to view outside it’s an up charge.
Otherwise if you leave them on they stream ads.
Shhhhh
Patricia and the Cats
Good name for a band.
OT – ZMan has passed.
Damn, damn, damn. RIP Chris.
I have absolutely no interest in looking out the windows of airliners. They are too low for me to get a look out of, and why bother looking at a scene I’ve seen from the front window for thousands of hours?
I prefer an aisle seat, up front myself.
Of course being 6’3 might have something to do with my disdain
Doc, just occasionally a window seat provides a spectacular view.
I once flew out of Melbourne (Australia, not Florida) to Adelaide in a then new 737-300. It was just after sunset on the ground and as we climbed the sky went through all the pure colors of the rainbow. Spectacular!
Well, the view out the front is always better. And I have more than 12,000 hours of those views.
But seriously, even in first class, thanks to my height, the pitch of the seats and the low positioning of the windows, I generally can see more out the other sides windows than the one that might be intended for my seat (if the seat pitch didn’t screw that up).
I know. I have 4000 hours myself in sailplanes and light aircraft but never seen that sky spectrum except as a passenger in a jet.
I assume the people who want window seats but don’t use the window are there because they don’t want to have to get up for their neighbors to use the toilet. But I’ve never asked.
That is the other reason I always try to get one.
But then when it’s me that needs to use the can, oh brother.
I suppose however, it’s better than being hit in the funny bone by the drink cart. (Do they still do those? My last flight on Southwest didn’t offer…)
Speaking of things that were better in the old days, I just read that Lalo Schiffrin died this week. Here’s a recent orchestral performance of ‘Bullitt’.

Oh, wow. I had been wondering how the trip home went, and am sorry it was “suboptimal.” But at least you’re home.
