As the president said four years ago, when you’re desperate, you make the campaign about little ideas.
George McGovern
It is amazing how far to the left the party has drifted over the decades since. I don’t think my father, who died a third of a century ago would recognize it. I actually had a McGovern sticker patching up a tear in the rear window of my MGA in 1972, but I was a callow youth, slightly too young to vote. If I hadn’t been, it would have been the other vote that I regretted (the first one was for Carter in 1976 — I wised up by 1980).
The Wolverines
That was too close for comfort, but it was nice to see them beat the Spartans, finally. I expected it to be a beatdown, given how well the defense has been playing. And it’s the first win in a long time, I think, that they didn’t score a touchdown.
[Update in the evening]
It’s been over a decade since Michigan won without a touchdown. Probably longer. It’s unusual for them to not score a touchdown, let alone win without doing so. It’s a testimony to the defense.
Why Do We Buy Cookbooks?
Some thoughts.
I’m guessing that I’m in Megan’s class when it comes to the number owned, but I also rare use them any more. It really is a lot easier to just look up a recipe on the web with a netbook on the kitchen counter. I mainly use them for traditional recipes that I’ve made for years for special occasions, like holidays (I’ve been using the New York Times cookbook for decades). Also, most cookbooks I have don’t do well with a paleolithic diet.
Desperation
