This headline seems a little misleading. When I first saw it, I thought that it meant that the Air Force had given up on orbital refueling, but all it means is that the experiment was largely successful, and is over.

Dinerman Lauds Heinlein in Wall Street Journal
Taylor Dinerman wrote a nice tribute to Robert Heinlein in today’s Wall Street Journal. He concludes:
In another hundred years, it will be interesting to see if the nuclear-powered spaceships and other technological marvels he predicted are with us. But nothing in his legacy will be more important than the spirit of liberty he championed and his belief that “this hairless embryo with the aching oversized brain case and the opposable thumb, this animal barely up from the apes will endure. Will endure and spread out to the stars and beyond, carrying with him his honesty and his insatiable curiosity, his unlimited courage and his noble essential decency.”
Mr. Dinerman writes a weekly column for the Space Review.
Nice to see Taylor and Jeff Foust’s publication getting broader exposure.
Overqualified?
A man with no brain is a successful French civil servant. Color me shocked. The jokes pretty much write themselves. I expect George Bush to appoint him to something or other any moment.
Seriously, I do think this reveals how much about the human mind that we still don’t understand (and once again gives pause about subjects like Terri Schiavo).
[Afternoon update]
And of course, what would a topic like this be without a Free Republic thread, complete with several examples of the concept.
Shakeup For Milspace?
General Chilton is taking over as head of STRATCOM. I’m pretty sure that this will be the first time an astronaut has held that post:
After flying operational and weapon-testing missions in F-4 and F-15 fighter jets, Chilton moved into the space track, joining NASA in 1987. As a part of the world
Another Loss For The Anti-Bush Propagandists
Not that the moonbats will pay much attention, but the Lancet report from 2004 claiming a hundred thousand civilian casualties in Iraq as a result of removing Saddam has been further discredited.
A Useful Precedent
Some thoughts on Chief Minniehawhaw, and the potential implications for cleaning up the ongoing fraud and abuse of the left in academia.
Churchill’s firing doesn’t spell the beginning of the end for professors who abuse their positions, but it was a good day in Denver.
Unfortunately, I suspect that he will be paraded by the so-called progressives as a martyr for freedom of speech, and many will foolishly continue to buy it.
The Pirate Ballerina also has a roundup of links about Chief Lies-a-Lot, with a picture of a drum-beating ceremony.
