Taking off from the conference to St. Louis for a family barbecue. Thoughts on the space conference later. Meanwhile Instapundit has a few more posts, with more to come, as does Jeff Foust. And Leonard David has an article about space diving, which may be a killer app for cheap suborbital vehicles like Armadillo’s.
The War In The Media
Lorie Byrd has an article about how Al Qaeda has made allies, witting or not, of the western press.
It’s Alive!
I just logged on for the first time since leaving Florida. I haven’t had my computer with me in the sessions until now, but Instapundit (with whom I had dinner and drinks last night) has been doing a little liveblogging of the conference, here and here.
Pete Worden, NASA Ames center director, is going to give a plenary speech in a few minutes, which will reportedly be initiated by his Second Life avatar.
Jeff Foust also has a bunch of posts over at Personal Spaceflight.
[Update]
Wireless connection sux. Probably no live blogging, and I have schmoozing to do. May check in later, but no promises.

Creepy Story Of The Day
Well, what would one expect from an ambulance chaser?
Rube Goldberg Lives!
What would we do without geeks with too much time on their hands?
Yearning For A Tet?
Hey, it worked for them the first time:
Despite their utter, unconditional capitulation, the Democrats insist this fight is not over. They live to surrender another day.
…Tet, the all-out communist offensive of February 1968, is remembered as a military failure for the North Vietnamese that was ironically their greatest political victory. An Iranian-backed campaign this summer could be the same for both Iran and America
A Civil War?
Yes, a civil war in the Arab world:
Seventy percent of insurgents fighting in Iraq come from Gulf countries via Syria where they are provided with forged passports, an Iraqi intelligence officer alleged in a published report Wednesday.
I don’t understand why we aren’t doing anything about this.
I should also repeat, as has been noted before, that 911 and the “War on Terror” is indeed an Arab/Muslim civil war that they’ve been exporting along with their oil.
I Laughed Out Loud
…when I read this:
“In every war, there’s conflict between hawks and doves. O’Donnell and Hasselbeck’s fight harkens back to a Vietnam-era exchange between liberal Gore Vidal and conservative William Buckley.”
Did someone at ABC News really write that with a straight face?
[Update a few minutes later]
You know, I can’t figure out which comparison is more ludicrous–Rosie and Gore Vidal (well, at least they’re both gay), or William Buckley and Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Somehow, when I think Elizabeth Hasselbeck, the word “sesquipedalian” is not the first one that comes to mind. Actually, over the last couple days, I would probably associate her with fatwas.
