I disagreed with him on most issues, and hoped that he would lose his election, but he always seemed a decent, principled man, and I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Senator Wellstone.

I don’t think that anyone wanted to see the Republicans regain control of the Senate in this tragic way.
