Too Late, I Think

Apparently, Barack and Michelle Obama are going to quit their church, which has provided him so much spiritual nourishment over the years, and provided so much needed guidance to their young children in “black liberation theology.” Apparently, they only just discovered that people have been saying…ummmmmmmm…controversial, yes, that’s the word…controversial things from the pulpit there, to the cheers of the parishioners.

Must be that new politics we’ve heard so much about.

  1. I hope his churches (both the Chicago and the DP one) quit him because that would represent real change you can believe in… ^_^

  2. So where’s the photoshop of his church doing it’s
best imitation of a speedbump (by a short but on it’s
    way to the whitehouse?)

  3. Laura Ingram on the Factor mention a bombshell coming soon. Now it seems it’s about Obama’s wife. How absurd is this going to get? Next headline perhaps…

    BHO throws wife under bus.

  4. Perhaps some of the “Trinity was taken out of context” folks will provide the context.

  5. The only people who give an effing shit about this pastor stuff are folks like you looking for every excuse – i.e. folks who wouldn’t be voting for Obama anyway.

No one else gives a shit. McCain will be pounded this election. Why not celebrate? Most of you hated him a few months ago.

You just keep whistling past that graveyard, anonymous.

  7. Yeah Simberg, you are right. Your place, when it takes to politics, is full of mainly dead thoughts and fantasies for coming back to life.

  8. Your place, when it takes to politics, is full of mainly dead thoughts and fantasies for coming back to life.

Surely you meant to write something more intelligent than that? If not, you should be embarrassed.

Well, except for the fact that your unintelligent comment was anonymous. Which, I guess, saves you the embarrassment. You can feel free to spew stupidity on the Internet with no consequence other than to those whose intelligence you lower with your nonsense.

  9. Actually, I take that back. You really don’t even have a plan for coming back to life. All you can do is curse the living. Heh.

Must be hard when you don’t have a single candidate running. Hahaha. Well, let’s see who McCain picks as running mate. He could pick one of your faves and lose even bigger. What a quandary for the right wing nutjobs.

Many of us don’t like Bush either, but that doesn’t mean that we would have been happier if Kerry had won.

Bush isn’t on the ballot and the election won’t be between Sen McCain and perfection. It will be between Sen McCain and either Sen Clinton or Sen Obama.

  11. Mr. Freeman:

Yes, that IS the point, isn’t it? The race for Leader of the Free World this time around devolves to a race between a crooked lawyer, an empty suit and a geriatric zealot.

Actually, that doesn’t matter to me at all, directly – I don’t live in the country that has that choice between evils, and the mess any of them will make of government doesn’t affect me at all. Directly.

Unfortunately, the elephant in the room is about to become either rabid (more so than it already is, that is to say) or arthritic. In other words, this poor choice affects an awful lot more people than those who get to vote.

When the dust has settled; maybe, just maybe, America ought to take a good long hard look at itself and find out why and how it got itself (and 5.7 billion others) into this mess.

Then, why are you wasting your time even posting your opinion about something so detached from your existence.

  13. Rand – you’ve given me 7,000-and-counting reasons not to vote for Obama, but no reasons to vote for McCain, or whomever you are endorsing for your readership.

I seem to recall back in 2004 the left-wing blogs were full of reasons to vote against Bush. Reasons to vote for Kerry – less so. I suspect that there’s a correlation between that and the election results.

I voted for Reagan in 1984 and Bush in 1988. The operant word there is “for.” If you want to appeal to swing voters, I submit that you need to give positve as well as negative reasons.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but it’s something I wanted to say.

  14. Rand – you’ve given me 7,000-and-counting reasons not to vote for Obama, but no reasons to vote for McCain, or whomever you are endorsing for your readership.

Who said I’m endorsing anyone for my readership? I’ve never endorsed a political candidate here. I’ve expressed some personal preferences, but I don’t think that constitutes an endorsement. I have a strong preference that Barack Obama not be the next president. I have a slightly less strong preference that Hillary Clinton not be the next president. I have no enthusiasm for McCain, and there’s much for me to be unhappy about the prospect of him as president as well.

Of course. That was Kerry’s campaign theme–his campaign platform was to not be George Bush. He and his supporters somehow imagined that that would be enough. And it might have been, had it been someone other than John Kerry. Or Howard Dean.

I voted for Reagan in 1984 and Bush in 1988. The operant word there is “for.” If you want to appeal to swing voters, I submit that you need to give positve as well as negative reasons.

I’m not trying to appeal to swing voters. I’m not trying to appeal to anyone. I’m just running a blog, at which I express my opinions. When I come up with something positive about John McCain, I’ll let people know. I’m sure there are some things, but I haven’t given it much thought. For me, the fact that he’s not Barack Obama will probably be enough, which is what he’s got to hope for. Sometimes (most of the time, in my experience) there is no one to vote “for.” At least for me. The only time I’ve ever voted for a winning presidential candidate was in 1976, and I wish that I hadn’t then.
