Happy Birthday, FAA

I hadn’t realized that it’s about the same age as NASA. I’d thought it went back further than that. For the occasions, Alan Boyle interviews the current head of the space side of the agency, George Nield.

  1. FAA grew out of the old Civil Aeronautics Board, so it sort of does go further back than 1958. Sort of the same way that NACA led to NASA… I gather the impetus for the FAA was that the CAB was kind of toothless and didn’t deal well with the growth of air travel after WW2. (Gosh – I figured reading those Time-Life history of flight books in elementary school might be useful someday!)
