XCOR is contributing a free ride to space to a representative of the Tuskegee Airmen. It sounds like a great program. And, of course, the publicity won’t hurt at all.
I wonder if they plan to give Jerri a long-deserved ride? I hope that she’s still in shape to fly; she’s pushing eighty now.
Before someone starts in about honoring the Tuskegee Airmen when there were so many other military units, on land, on the sea, and in the air who fought with valor, I just want to say 1) not only did these guys fight the Germans, they had to fight hard to get to the point that they could fight the Germans, not just in forming the unit but to get their unit into the thick of battle 2) the powers that be wanted to put a portrait of General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. in a prominent place at West Point, and he would have none of it because he wanted to be remembered for his service to his country and not merely serving the cause of his race.
Yeah, yeah, to speak of the Tuskegee Airmen has a tinge of racial tokenism as they were from a time when some didn’t think them to be capable of flying one of the hotest fighter aircraft the Army Air Corps. Kind of like Ed Dwight being selected for the astronaut corps and then all of the backlash from his peers. If you have any interest in the history of the space program, and you are ever in Battle Creek, Michigan, check out the park there.
But the Tuskegee Airmen flew and fought in the P-51, what they did was cool, and it was glorious.
I am 76. Will it take the Greatest Generation to come to the rescue again? You young people had better get your act together and rescue this country from fools in Washington who are on a path of destruction. What is happening is not “cool” or “smart”. We are being destroyed by a bunch who are buying up your vote. STAND UP. Fight for your country. Be a man. Be an AMERICAN. We can do better than this. God bless those who fought in WWII. Tuskegees EVERYONE. I just read that some fool is now re-writing history- that the American GI’s used and abused the European people they had just liberated. Ike himself warned against this – that any GI found guilty of abuse of these people who had suffered so much would be held accountable. It seems anything good is under attack. Get smart. If we fall, the liberals will fall with the conservatives. NO ONE WINS!!! May God Bless America!
