That’s Awunna Expensiva Pizza

Who paid for this?

When you’re the president of the United States, only the best pizza will do – even if that means flying a chef 860 miles.

Chris Sommers, 33, jetted into Washington from St Louis, Missouri, on Thursday with a suitcase of dough, cheese and pans to to prepare food for the Obamas and their staff.

Short of out of the president’s own pocket, is there any good answer for that question? If it came out of the White House catering budget, how is that justified to the taxpayers? If someone donated the money, who was it, and what did they get for it?

And why doesn’t the The Daily Mail think that’s an interesting question? Would the New York Times? Or is it just news that’s not fit to print?

And, of course, knowing this, what are we supposed to think when the president excoriates the greedy and rich?

  1. Rand asks, Google answers. The chef is paying (click my name for the People article — evidently People isn’t in on the MSM conspiracy to bury this information). The chef’s restaurant is getting lots of publicity out of the deal.

  2. We are to think they are disingenuous, of course.

What happened to public servants not accepting gifts? (There’s an idea that came and went.)

  3. We are to think that media organs have the same relationship to our President as the Saudi ones do to their monarch.

  4. Executive branch regulations generally allow the
acceptance of gifts up to $25 and also allow
acceptance of gifts at a widely attended function,
this allows executive branch staffers to attend
    parties at holidays.

Given that this is Easter weekend, and the whole
staff are attending, and the person involved has no
official business with the federal government, i’d call
    it a wash.

Now all those private parties Bush and Cheney used to
attend at Ken Lay’s Ski chalet, we still haven’t seen
the lists of who was at those.

If Bush and Cheney had gone around bashing the rich and greedy, I might care.

  6. Hopefully Obama, fortified by pizza, will pass cap and trade. Then prices will include carbon footprints.

  7. The President is from Chicago, and he flies in a chef from St. Louis, of all places, to make him a pizza?

Surely the President has heard of 1-800-Lou-to-go. Chicago deep dish pizza, FROM Chicago, for a heck of a lot less than it costs to fly a chef out to DC and back.

  8. apparently the Pizza Man in question has a girlfriend
in DC and was planning to spend Easter Weekend with
his Beau. Given he had catered events for the Obama
campaign in St Louis, he had contacts with the staff
and asked if they would like him to cater an event
that same weekend, given he was going to be there.

End of Kerfuffle, I suggest people return to their
    favorite conspiracy theories involving Obama’s
    birth certificate

  9. Again, down here’s ‘jack’, and up there is the point, blissfully flying over his head.

The issue isn’t a guy coming to town and making pizza, the issue is that the President, his staff, and many of his advisors have been criticizing the ‘rich’ and their ‘decadance’ for months. Now, he goes and does the SAME THING he’s been railing again. Also, he and his staff/advisors have come to the conclusion that Global Warming is no so dire, the US must take significant measures to combat it (well, except for flying in said chef).

    Hypocrisy, thy name is BO!!
