(Right)Winging It At The DHS

Jonah Goldberg, on the hypocrisy and misplaced paranoia of the left (and the MSM, but I repeat myself) in seeing “rightwing extremists” behind every tree, while ignoring the real threats:

When Hollywood filmed the Tom Clancy novel The Sum of All Fears, it changed the real villains from jihadi terrorists to a bunch of European CEOs who were secret Nazis. Because “everybody knows” that’s where the real threat lies.

Sen. John Kerry belonged to an organization of vets that considered assassinating American politicians. (Kerry denied participating in those meetings.) Barack Obama was friends with, and a colleague of, a terrorist whose organization plotted to murder soldiers and their wives at a social at Fort Dix. A young Hillary Clinton sympathized with the Black Panthers, a paramilitary gang of racist murders and cop killers.

Bring that up and you’re a paranoid nutcase out of Dr. Strangelove.

But if you’re terrified of a bunch of citizens who throw tea in the water and demand lower taxes and less government spending, well, that’s just a sign of political seriousness.

Also, as John Miller points out, these people have gotten way too much mileage out of Tim McVeigh. And if his goal was to increase the power of the political “right,” it had exactly the opposite effect, blunting the Republican momentum from the 1994 elections.

Which is why that was the Clancy movie I refused to see.

Well, that and they replaced Harrison Ford with … who was that guy again?

  2. Clinton had his “Jackboots Janet,” and now, in the bulky form of Attorney General “Napoleon-itano,” Obama has his. What is it with these “liberal” presidents that attracts them to Rosa Klebb type “enforcers”? Is it the eternal appeal of the Strong Man?

  3. If McVeigh is “proof” that all vets are potential terrorists, then doesn’t John Walker Jr. prove we’re all potential spies too?

It’s the same crap with every Lib Dem administration, they HATE the military. As if the Bill Ayers / George Soros / Ward Churchills of the country would raise a finger to defend the country if it was attacked again. But they LOVE those liberal jerks.

Regardless of what the libs think of me as a veteran, I’m doing my part for the country. I’ll make it easier for others by working harder myself, for me and mine. I’m moving to the boonies, going off the grid, going ultra-green (because it’s cheaper in the long haul) and becoming as self sufficient as I can. Then all the libs can KMA, but they better stay off my land. I’m taking my official, gub’ment issued, veterans terrorist kit, all my guns and my copy of the Anarchists Cookbook with me!

I’ll only go terroristic if you come in there un-invited.

Actually, that’s the reason I so enjoy the film – on DVD. There’s a commentary track with Mr. Clancy expressing his… distaste, if you will, for what Hollywood did to his excellent novel. With the director on hand to make a frankly pathetic defense of the film – it makes for entertainment where the movie itself fails.
