You’re Not Fired!

Don Trump knows a gold mine when he sees it.

[Update a few minutes later]

You have to feel sorry for the actual pageant winner. Who even knows her name now?

Carrie Prejean was the real winner of the pageant, thanks to Perez Hilton and the other vicious bigots (like frequent commenter “Jim”).

[Wednesday evening update]

Commenter “Jim” has (under some, but probably minimum duress) retracted his comment that Ms. Prejean sounds like a bigot in comments here, and I hereby retract mine that he does.

  1. Can someone tell me how to pronounce “Prejean” — I only get my news from the Web, and I don’t want to sound ignorant when I “drop” that name in conversation.

  2. I’ve heard it pronounced both as PreeJeen and PrayZhan. The latter is the correct French, but I don’t know how she and her family pronounce it. I would do the latter, to sound more erudite and less red neck.

  3. I’ve only heard PreeJeen on TMZ. Not that I willing watch that show. I only get the gov’t television where they do nothing but spoon feed us this crap.

  4. Here is south Louisiana, Prejean is pronouced it Pray-zhan, emphasis on first syllable, amongst us of French descent.

I’m sure all the pretty talking heads on the national news are suppressing the urge to call her something worse…

  5. Thanks. Cajun French helps out a lot. That would give a person latitude to say “Pray-zhan”, “Preh-zhan”, “Pree-john” without sounding completely stupid.

For someone coming from California, I thought the name could be Armenian and be pronounced something like Pree-gee-ann, but I guess it would be spelled differently.

  6. Armenian names always end in “ian” or “yan.” It’s the word “son,” so it’s like “Robertson” or “Thompson” in English (or Swedish). And they’re generally longer. And she sure doesn’t look Armenian… šŸ˜‰

  7. What, specifically, qualifies me for the label “vicious bigot”?

And what, out of curiosity, am I bigoted against?

  8. What, specifically, qualifies me for the label ā€œvicious bigotā€?

Your comments in the previous thread, where you said that she sounded like a bigot for saying pretty much exactly the same thing that Barack Obama has said. Though, in your case, I’ll retract the “vicious,” and leave that to people like Perez Hilton (and many of the people who were attacking, both verbally and literally, Mormons after Prop 8, while ignoring the Hispanics and blacks who also voted for it).

And what, out of curiosity, am I bigoted against?

Christians, and non-“liberal” white people. Probably red necks and white southerners in general, too, I’d guess.

  9. For the record, my statement was that Prejean “sounded ignorant and possibly bigoted”. Ignorant, because she suggested that same-sex marriage was an option generally available to all Americans. Possibly bigoted, because she seemed to rule it out as an option for her country and her family, as if same-sex couples aren’t part of “her country”, and a gay person would not be accepted in “her family”. I can easily believe that this was a false impression, based on her clumsy wording, which is why I wrote that “she sounded ignorant and possibly bigoted”.

Christians, and non-ā€liberalā€ white people. Probably red necks and white southerners in general, too, Iā€™d guess.

When have I ever expressed prejudice against any of these groups? While you are guessing, can you guess which of these groups include me and/or my family members?

  10. Tell you what. Here’s the deal.

You retract your comment that she sounds like a bigot, and I’ll retract mine (for which I have a much better case) that you do.

  11. While you are guessing, can you guess which of these groups include me and/or my family members?

So, you’re one of those self-hating white Christian rednecks. What’s your point? šŸ˜‰

The deal stands. Retract, and I’ll retract.

If you don’t like it, no one makes you post here. Stop doing so, and we won’t have poor Jim to kick around any more.
