Doing The Best That You Can Do

…but sometimes, it just isn’t enough. I had drinks with Mark (and Iowahawk) a couple weeks ago. That had to be emotionally devastating. And my hat is eternally off to the people who do it for a living.

[Early afternoon update]

One other take-home message from this. Please, folks. Buckle up.

  1. Really enjoy your take on things. My daughter is an paramedic in New Orleans. She was on the job 6 months when Katrina hit and is still there. She sees this stuff all the time and it really does take a toll. You are correct: Hats off to the pros that deal with it.

  2. Ed. I salute your daughter and all the others like her. Being a big-city paramedic can be as traumatic as being a combat medic. It takes a toll on even the strongest people. No city can afford to pay these people what they’re really worth.

  3. Paul,
the “real news” they screw up constantly. I’ve been at “X” happening on two occasions, then later, I’ve seen the coverage and wondered where they got the news intel, as it was half wrong. Once it hardly resembled the event and so many people complained at 6 o’clock, they had an apology and a revamped story at 11.
    .
That “other news” they want us to hear, the “Obama is always right”, “…we blame Bush”, “Sarah Palin is a bad mother and that her daughter is a wanton slattern proves it” stuff is easy to get right. They make it up as they go, to fit the news cycle du jour. And Paul, how can a made up, totally fictitious, fallacious, lie be inaccurate?

I’ve been IN serious wrecks, but never witnessed anything like this. On the whole, I’d rather be a late coming attendee than a participant. But each time, the EMT’s, police and firefighters were priceless. On one occassion they made it possible for me to be here writing this.

    Thank God for them.

Here’s hoping this young lady gets through this soon.

And here’s hoping Armed Liberal is over the hang over soon, too. After the day he had, it’s only fair.
