  1. “I will hold my staff, our agencies and the people in them accountable when they fail to perform their responsibilities at the highest levels,” Obama said at the White House.

But “ultimately, the buck stops with me.” – Barack Obama

Would he have said this if the attacker had ‘succeeded’ in his mission?

  2. They have to follow the orders, if not they are answerable from the authorities as they are responsible for the troubles if arises. If they were asserting a general right of felons to vote, then why bring up racial discrimination all.

  3. silvermine, just be patient… Jim will be by soon to tell us how it all makes perfectly good sense….

  4. “Would he have said this if the attacker had ’succeeded’ in his mission?”

I’m not sure, but I doubt he would have declared war on and invaded a country that had absolutely nothing to do with it.

  5. He’s in charge now, Mark.

How far should we go back? Vietnam? Korea? WWII? WWI? After the century you lefties had dragging the US into wars, you seem a little eager to point at Bush every time Obama stumbles. Remind me again about the Dem timetable for withdrawal.

  6. I’m not sure, but I doubt he would have declared war on and invaded a country that had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I’ve heard that crap so many times now it seems to have become background noise. IIRC Abu Abbas and Abu Nidal got their ultimate rewards as a direct result. Why don’t you take that excrement somewhere where your audience is a little more pliant, like http://www.imanidiot.com.

  7. Well, Henry, I can give you Vietnam as being an epic fail, but are you really arguing against entering WW1 and WW2? (Korea was definitely the right thing at the time).

As for you, Curt, I frankly don’t give a shit how many times you’ve heard something. But, maybe if you hear it a few more, it might finally sink in.

As for your URL, wow. You’re very creative. You should look into writing a satiric piece. I’m sure many people would find your excellent quips humorous.

  8. you seem a little eager to point at Bush every time Obama stumbles.

It is fascinating how both the Party of slavery, secession, segregation and urban corruption, and the ideology which gave us manufactured famines, the gulag, the Killing Fields and the Cultural Revolution both like to bring up everyone else’s past. And how that same past( “Bush did it”), is At the same time used to justify and excuse their current failures.

  9. “IIRC Abu Abbas and Abu Nidal got their ultimate rewards as a direct result.”

Curt: do tell. How much time, effort, money, and innocent lives did it require to take out…two people?

  10. I’d be willing to wager that invading Iraq was more relevant to the War on Terror than Health care reform and the stimulus are to to creating jobs and resolving the recession. But were getting into a apples and oranges fallacy so not really certain what the point is of even bothering to argue with a arrogant little jackass of a troll. Now go back to the cafe mark and brag to your latte sipping friends that you just pwned everyone on the internet and then you all can shave each others backs as a reward for just how super duper smart you all are.

  11. I love the way the modern Right conveniently forgets the post-Reconstruction political realignment. Modern Republicans are the party of Lincoln in name only.

  12. “Modern Republicans are the party of Lincoln in name only.”

And yet none of that irrelevant history changes that fact that Obama is an incompetent fool.

  13. I’m also endlessly amused at the usage of phrases like “latte-sipping” as insults. It’s a drink…made with coffee. I don’t get it. I guess it isn’t a six-pack of some domestic brew, so it must have something to do with France or Communism or something. I assume we have Sarah Palin to thank for adding that little bit of retardation to our country’s already-reeling political discourse.

  14. And the democrats are ignoring the extent to which the democrat machine politicians in the south who fought desegregation became the same democrat machine politicians pretending the welfare state was making everything better instead of creating just another patronage scheme. For example: George Wallace. Another example: the whole corrupt New Orleans political machine. Yes, there were darker faces being used as front-men for the machine, but I don’t think things were materially improving for the _average_ black person in New Orleans between 1964 and 2004. They were glad to say “yea, we are the figureheads now” but they never started questioning the machine itself.

  15. And I suppose Michael Steele is a shining example of all the Republicans have done for the African American community…

I’m not defending Democrats here. But to say the Republicans have done better would be ridiculous.

  16. And getting back on the main subject… I don’t think there was anything this bureaucratic functionary was going to be doing that was going to make anything better; I don’t think you can really expect any great successes if you’re not willing to do certain things. Obama ran on the premise that the problem wasn’t with all the aristocrats who fund Al Qaeda through intermediatries, but rather with us for having a prison camp in Guantanamo. We count on catching all the foot soldiers just in the nick of time all the while we send 300 billion a year overseas to the quartermasters general of their army and say that’s the way things are supposed to be.

Well, until you decide that that’s not the way things are supposed to be, you’re just going to have to learn to live with losing airliners.

  17. “Now go back to the cafe mark and brag to your latte sipping friends that you just pwned everyone on the internet and then you all can shave each others backs as a reward for just how super duper smart you all are.”

Lattes are quite enjoyable, friend. Perhaps you should try one next time instead of sucking from the teet of the right wing.

“pwned” – wow look at you. Using the INTERNET LINGO. What’s next? “1337”? Will the wonders never cease? I am in AWE of your Internet 1337-dom.

And is back-shaving some kind of new insult against liberals? Weird, man. Weird.

  18. Also the Dixiecrats became modern Republicans, jackass.

If you look at the worst of the segregationists like George Wallace, they lived their entire lives as Democrats. It was Democrats like Al Gore’s father who voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act, as did Bill Clinton’s mentor William Fullbright. It was Democrats who enacted the odious “Jim Crow” laws. Most of them went to their graves as Democrats. That’s historical fact.

  19. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am off to drink a latte, brag to the internet, and have my friend shave my back.

Just another typical day for an Obama voter!

  20. I’m sure many people would find your excellent quips humorous.

I’m thinking alot of things would strike a person as humorous at back-shaving events.

How much time, effort, money, and innocent lives did it require to take out…two people?

Not a dime; a great “direct result” with no up-front investment required.

  21. “Obama ran on the premise that the problem wasn’t with all the aristocrats who fund Al Qaeda through intermediatries (sic), but rather with us for having a prison camp in Guantanamo.”

That’s just patently false. If you pay attention to news outlets that aren’t staffed by people determined to paint Obama as the anti-Christ, you might notice the near-weekly reports of international banks being shut down for funding terrorism.

“Well, until you decide that that’s not the way things are supposed to be, you’re just going to have to learn to live with losing airliners.”

Yeah, we’ve lost so many since Obama became President it’s impossible for me to even keep count…..

We ALMOST lost one. Almost. It was too close a call, and the intelligence community, under the direct instruction of President Obama, is looking into what went wrong. I won’t point back to the early days of the Bush presidency for comparison here, but then…I don’t think I have to. We all remember 9/11, and we all remember the stonewalling the Administration did when the 9/11 commission was looking for answers.

  22. “we all remember the stonewalling the Administration did when the 9/11 commission was looking for answers.”

Actually, we remember that Jamie Gorelick – the direct author of “the Wall” preventing intelligence gathered via espionage (CIA) from reaching law enforcement (CBG, FBI) – being on the freaking panel itself. And Sandy Burger sneaking “just copies” of intelligence briefings out of the archives. Marginalia being the only reason these copies of the reports would normally be retained.

  23. So the commission was too political, and Bush did just the right thing when he launched his own investigation and found out exactly where the holes in our intelligence were.

Wait…he didn’t. He created the Department of Homeland Security, and took steps to improve inter-agency communication….because the 9/11 Commission Report recommended it.

  24. Rand, it’s time.

Mark, I enjoy trading comments with Chris. You’re just a troll and not a very good one at that.

  25. Bill, I STRIVE for your approval. Every day of my life, I wake up and say to myself “what can I do today to please Bill Maron of the Internet”?

  26. Also the Dixiecrats became modern Republicans, jackass.

Robert Byrd is no Republican and never has been.

  27. Defending this administration, which is distressingly dishonest and incompetent, is no better than defending the last one.

  28. He created the Department of Homeland Security, and took steps to improve inter-agency communication….because the 9/11 Commission Report recommended it.
    Let’s see here:
“The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, also known as the 9/11 Commission, was set up [aka started] on November 27, 2002”

    and here
“The Department of Homeland Security was established on November 25, 2002, by the Homeland Security Act of 2002.”

One of these three quotes has temporal issues.

  29. Fair enough. I was mistaken on that point. But, uh…that does not change the fact that Obama’s response to the threat of terrorism has been perfectly competent. Just like under Bush, we don’t hear about the successes, because phrases like “Panty Bomber” make better headlines. And I reiterate…that person did not succeed, but the Obama administration still launched an investigation. The no-fly list has been expanded greatly in the past couple of days as a result of this investigation.

  30. Defending this administration, which is distressingly dishonest and incompetent, is no better than defending the last one.

    Exactly.

    But it is more historic.

  31. Nice to see opposing viewpoints, here, for a change. Interesting, from my lurker’s perspective, how most of the insults and invective here originate from the Original Band of Sycophants, who just don’t like to have to look up from the trough while they chew each other’s cud.

I must say, Rand, it is now a far more interesting blog.

  32. Well, he is our first black President. That’s definitely an historic thing.

But, uh…isn’t that a total non-sequitur re: the current discussion?

  33. Don’t count on it staying that way too long, Andy. I’m sure Rand will ban both Ethan and myself very soon.

I mean, it is about that time.

  34. “Mark Says:

Also the Dixiecrats became modern Republicans, jackass.”

Chapter, verse and NAMES please? As a life long southern Republican I can tell you this statement is horse droppings. The Dixiecrats are still here in many ways, and still screwing things up in the south.

  35. “I can give you Vietnam as being an epic fail, but are you really arguing against entering WW1 and WW2?”

US intervention in WWI extended the war, prevented a negotiated peace that would have allowed Germany to recover without loons like Hitler coming to power, killed millions and gave us the Nazis and USSR.

So yes, US intervention in WWI was an absolute disaster that we’re still living with the consequences of today.

  36. Mark,

I don’t think much of Ethan’s grasp of history, but he has striven to remain civil in an environment that shows very little patience with ignorance. In that sense, I am ashamed that I have not shown him more civility, and promise that I will strive to do so in the future.

You, on the other hand, are simply unpleasant and insulting. If I needed a magic box of lefty troll-points spouted by a rude ignoramous, I could easily visit KOS or one of the other sewers. This isn’t about ideology (see my point re: Ethan), it is about manners.

I agree Rand, it is time…

  37. All of those points are debatable, Evil.

And go to prove…what point, exactly? That Democrats are responsible for the failures of the Weimar Republic, the rise of Hitler, AND the USSR? That’s even more far-out than saying Bush caused 9/11 on purpose.

Is that the best you can do? *yawn*

“Bill, I STRIVE for your approval. Every day of my life, I wake up and say to myself “what can I do today to please Bill Maron of the Internet”?

Oooo, I can reciprocate arrogance, hyperbole, and snarkiness with the best of them. Why I am just sooooo glad that Andy now approves of this blog. I’m gonna be dancing around on my toes the rest of the day like a little school girl. That is if I can pull myself away from the trough, the cud’s mighty tasty you know.

  40. Technically it’s just feed. The cows don’t throw up back into the trough, it stays in the animal’s mouth. Eat once, chew and regurgitate three times.

Arrogance, hyperbole, and snarkiness….those are three things I’ve never seen used by any of the regular commenters here. Never ever.

  41. Why I am just sooooo glad that Andy now approves of this blog

Which actually brings up a very interesting question: I wonder if Rand would prefer a 20 person echo chamber, or a 100 person discussion blog (provided, naturally, that it doesn’t devolve into cacophony.)?

It’s obvious what you would prefer, but from a host/tangential revenue standpoint, where’s the sweet spot for Rand?

  42. I wonder if Rand would prefer a 20 person echo chamber, or a 100 person discussion blog

FWIW, the 23 person food-fight is hillarious.

  43. “I wonder if Rand would prefer a 20 person echo chamber, or a 100 person discussion blog.”

I wonder this myself. Judging by the fact that he took one of my posts and made it into a whole entry in which he told his usual gang of, uh…people, to drop some nuggets of “wisdom” on me…I’m guessing it’s the former.

  44. Arrogance, hyperbole, and snarkiness….those are three things I’ve never seen used by any of the regular commenters here. Never ever.

Yeah, but we use them with competence.

  45. where’s the sweet spot for Rand?
Soooooo… You’re posting here out of charity, try’n to bring some enlightenment to us cud-chewers. Woll isn’t that special. I for one certn’ly appreciate it.
I’m guessing Rands “sweet spot” has a higher s/n ratio than this thread, and probably a little more civility too, but one works with the material at hand. When someone like you shows up, lamenting the amount of invective and insult with one side of your mouth and spewing it out the other at the same time, all the while not even contributing an opinion on the subject or on any specific comment, the result can be guessed pretty easily: a food-fight. And I agree with Titus, it is entertaining.
