  1. disturbing, though no doubt true

This is the exact response liars depend upon. It seems to incredible to believe, which provide the crack of self doubt they attempt to drive their lies through. If nothing else it slows you down from acting decisively. You spend wasted time trying to figure out why, rather than dealing with what.

  2. I’m sorry, Jim, how does changing one’s political beliefs because of 9/11 mean a person is mentally ill? I know that 9/11, and the subsequent reaction of many so-called liberals to that act and the aftermath, made me question even more of the beliefs I used to hold automatically about the goals of the Democrats among other things. (Hint: I used to be a Democrat; it wasn’t 9/11 but earlier that I began to question the party line, but 9/11 was just one of the various nails in the coffin.) You’ve just called a lot of people who disagree with you crazy for no good reason. How very Soviet of you.

  3. How very Soviet of you.

Yes, with an “LOL” so he can pretend to be young and hip while doing so.

If 9/11 changes your opinion of Chappaquiddick, you’ve got some crossed wires upstairs.

  5. Not necessarily, Jim. It might just mean that some people went back and examined the evidence behind old scandals which they may have previously dismissed as being “too partisan.”

For me the turning point wasn’t 9/11, it was the Monica Lewinski scandal. Though I never identified as a Democrat, I also didn’t think of myself as a conservative as a Republican (and I’m still an independent politically). What changed with the Monica Lewinski scandal was my willingness to give Democrat politicians any benefit of the doubt. It was clear to me from the day the story broke that Bill Clinton was guilty as charged and that he was lying about the affair. And once I recognized that, I began to wonder about all of the other lies I had dismissed as partisan hype in the past. At first I was just angry about Bill and Hillary’s response to the scandal, but as time went on and prominent Democrats rose to their defense and started making excuses and fogging over the clear issues, I became more alarmed by the way the party and its leaders were willing to mislead, bend the truth, and lie in the service of retaining power. Eventually, I began to notice the way in which the media reported the story and made excuses for Clinton, and consequently, I began to recognize just how prevalent the media’s bias truly was.

  6. ken anthony–You’re right about that. I remember listening to NPR one morning and hearing one of the hosts ask a question of one of the reporters: “why didn’t she just take the dress to the dry cleaners?”

  7. “It’s Lewinski’s fault for not doing her laundry.”

Evidently she learned nothing from Watergate.

Oh, I remember when the semen-stained dress was first reported. That’s when the purported media watchdog magazine Brill’s Content was first issued. Mr. Brill did a long piece on the media coverage of Lewinskygate. He came right out and said not that the evidence of the semen-stained dress had yet to be produced, but that the dress did not exist. He invalidated the magazine’s existence in its very first issue!
