  1. Dark chocolate for me… not all are created equal. I haven’t had rum in a long time… now I’ve got a craving for it… thanks Rand.

  2. Homebrew works (there’s a pork chop worth of nutrition in every bottle!) – just thankful that I’ll never visit that website again and I’ve resisted the urge to Google the folks at 9:00 and 6:00.

  3. Homebrewed German style brew, upper end small batch bourbon for fun (which I drink sparingly due to the cost), and I usually drink ice water for thirst. My alcohol drinks generally go with whatever the meal is if eating out somewhere.

    I’m NOT the most interesting man in the world, but I drink Dos XX’s with Mexican food. I like Chianti with Italian.

    I don’t generally drink light liquor, except for tah-kill-ya.

  4. Ya see, a good beer (and spirits) thread ends up making me wish I still lived in Seattle. But Der Schtumpy reminds me that the closest I can get to Mexican food (here in upstate Vermont) is either Taco Bell or my own kitchen.

    But I have fond memories of Huevos Racheros in Winslow, AZ, and Chile Rellenos in Lodi, CA… Dos XX’s sounds just fine. Thanks man.

    I prefer darker beers and ales too. I tried a stout once — it wasn’t Guinness — that was pretty good. I also prefer red wine to white. I don’t like rum, though, unless it’s in a hot toddy.

  6. I couldn’t find any decent mexican food in NYC either… just some overpriced artsy fartsy stuff that was mostly plate. Which is funny since they have the best of every other kind of food. I used to have a pretty good puerto rican breakfast at this one place before work… about 30 years ago.

  7. Lemmeseenow…bourbon and branch, czech. single malt on the rocks, czech, cuba libre’, czech, and of course, gin-n-tonic, the drink for sitting on the veranda in the veldt with that over-armed twit, Quartermain, watching the natives be restless, double czech.

    I used to live in SoCal, then the Central Valley years later and also used to travel out through the Southwest, so I learned the difference in real Mexican food and Taco Bell / Tico Taco / Taco Bueno, etc. Luckily we have a huge Mexican group here in central NC. So real, honest to God, restaurant style AND Mexican home style cooking food is readily available.

    We’ve got a few Mexican roach coachs that are a delight too.

    I forgot to list the roach coach between Chico and Paradise, CA (real close to Paradise, actually) that was the bomb. Huge portions of truly authentic homestyle, so inexpensive that I ordered way too much food.

    I may have to take another trip to NC/SC for both the Mexican you describe and your vinegar based BBQ. Down around Chapel Hill I had the best okra side dish ever.

  10. Guiness is in the lower left quadrant, near the center. A gross error if you ask me. And bourbon isn’t listed at all. Who compiled this furshuginner list, anyway?

    I saw that oversight too. But I know good, brown, sippin’ stuff. I need no list to tell me that it’s manly!

    (and BTW, is Beiber old enough to drink? I thought he was a kid)

  12. Black Butte Porter, brewed by the Deschutes Brewery in Oregon is my favorite bottled beer. The Ram restaurants have a porter that’s to die for, and The Rock Pizza has a home-brewed porter that’s very good too.
