  1. The vicious part is the coverup. Police screw up, they’re human. They’re bound to have major foulups as well. But the Costco was wired to the nines and had video on a pile of hard drives. Which were handed to the police. And have encountered an “accident.”

I’m coming more and more to the conclusion that seized video evidence should reside in the hands of the judiciary. It’s all digital, you can give the crime labs a perfect copy. But the police are squealing about citizens with cameras – as if they have internalized the idea that nothing bad is likely to come to light from the tapes that they’ve seized. This isn’t a good spot to be in.

In an age when it costs more to delete data than to store it forever, there’s only one reason why that isn’t happening already. Hell, youtube it.

  3. This is scary stuff. What was only a mundane shopping errand could end in any of our deaths. It only takes one phone call and a pointing finger.

  4. “Those concerns might well be eventually alleviated by the evidence, but absent convincing evidence that contradicts initial impressions, it would be hard to imagine how the police were justified in their actions in this case.”

We should expect the same level of restraint and professionalism of our cops as we do our soldiers. There is a nationwide epidemic of abuse of power by law enforcement. It is a tough and dangerous job but they are supposed to be pros and they all make good money and benefits.

Maybe it is time for every member of law enforcement to wear a cam at all times.

  5. It appears that violence by control freaks in cop uniforms is increasing. Here in Orlando an 84 year old guy had his neck broken by a 20something cop this weekend. He has survived the cop’s assault but faces charges for assault and battery on a LEO.

There are also to many cops ready to shoot first and ask questions later. Not a good sign. Policing is by consent of the population and right now the police are way to ready to abuse power and cover up mistakes. Of its nature policing is a reactionary task; police respond after the violence, robbery whatever. It seems that they cannot protect and now they do not want to serve. They are way too isolated from the communities they are supposed to help.

  6. A camera on every cop with a direct feed to hard drives in the basement of the nearest State Judicial building.

    I like it.

  7. Electronic evidence should be in the public domain. Thirty years ago the front door of the building I lived in was one of the cable channels.

In this case, no video is required. They shot the guy in the back while he was face down with no gun drawn. This was pure murder.

  8. Cops need to be tested for steroids as well as drugs. They all weightlift together at the local gym and exhibit roid rage.

  9. Rather, maybe we need a limit on how long one can be a cop before one has to take a break from it.

If you had to deal with what they do every day, how would you handle it?
