  1. I think this whole thread illustrates the point of the article quite well. The whole Western society has become so hypersensitive to offense of any kind. In doing so we have lost the ability to distinguish between the unpleasant and the truly offensive.

“…I don’t want to get into an argument about what should or should not be included in marriage laws, I just mean to defend the right of gay couples to be equal to heterosexual couples.”

I’d say that society has an interest in perpetuating the species. You don’t. Your interest is in jacking off.

  3. Scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll… Ah, the end. Okay, I’m back from a fulfilling day of activities that had nothing to do with internet trolls. I did see in passing that someone’s rejoinder to my speculation that the gays-can’t-visit-their-lovers-in-the-hospital problem to be mostly a thing of the past that I should look up some lesbian’s sad tale on Google. Well, why don’t YOU look it up on Google and link it here? The matter really isn’t all that important to me; you’re the one whose worried about gays.

  4. The whole “perpetuating the species” thing is really stupid. Marriage licenses aren’t denied to infertile heterosexual couples. Marriage has been about love first, procreation second if at all, since the beginning of the 20th century. And gay couples can and do adopt, or use surrogates, so it’s a moot point anyway. And I’m “more interested in jerking off?” What is that even supposed to mean?

And generally speaking, Andrea, you should look something up before you state it as fact….not post an assumption and then expect someone else to look it up for you. If you really don’t care then maybe you should stop trying to argue about it. Stick to things you know something about.

There’s a great documentary on Netflix streaming called “Tying the Knot.” It explains quite clearly why the gays are so vocal about marriage equality.

And this thread is utterly, ridiculously off-topic, and it’s largely my fault, and I’ll leave it alone now.

Nice advice Ethan, perhaps you should follow it.

  6. Oh man, I just saw a comment on another site on a different (slightly) topic, and I have to repeat it here (note, it’s not my original thought at all, but I wish it had been!): we can’t legalize gay marriage in this country. It would piss off the Muslims and cause them to riot — after all, they’re even more anti-gay than Christians are. And everyone knows that if we do something that offends Muslims in our own countries (like set fire to a Koran or publish a cartoon with Mohammed’s face) it causes Muslims to riot and kill in their own countries, and therefore it’s entirely our fault! So if you are for gay marriage, you’re also for Muslims rioting and killing in their own countries. You murderers!

(Sits back, waits for the equivocating and hair-splitting to start.)
