  1. Alaska is bad for a lot of reasons. Extremely powerful unions, for one. Massive federal land ownership and control, for another. A state constitution that reserves all mineral rights to the state, for a third.

Frankly, the only reason it’s possible at all to live free in Alaska is because it’s so big and so sparsely populated — but the majority of the people live within an hour’s drive of downtown Anchorage.

  2. Unfortunately, the recent Indiana Supreme Court decision to prevent citizens defending themselves from illegal government intrusions wasn’t part of the study. Indiana’s ranking will change next year, I’m sure.

  3. “These people don’t realize what totalitarians they’re becoming.”

    Sez who?

    To them, totalitarianism isn’t a bug, it’s a feature. >:-(

  4. Oregon ranks higher than Texas? WTF? I was surprised to see Hawaii rank so low, but then, I haven’t lived there for decades….

  5. The freedom-lovin’ citizens of Alaska are all on the Oil Dole, a welfare payment that goes out to every legal adult resident, courtesy of the Pipeline – whether they are involved in that industry or not.

BTW, a famous former Governor raised the tax on those oil companies, so that she could increase the amount of that payment – with help from Democrats in the state leg. Then she got all mavericky-like and ran for Veep as a freedom-lovin’ right wing kind of gal.

Alaska, the Last Frontier . . . you betcha.

Swallow that and I’ve got a bridge to sell ‘ya. Goes nowhere . . . .
