A Political Deadline For Afghan Troop Withdrawal?

You don’t say?

The 58-year-old Petraeus couched his committee answers in the standard Washington etiquette acknowledging civilian control of an obedient military.

However, his forthright replies rapidly reverberated across the Capitol, where so many in the political business are so ready to believe that the accelerated troop withdrawals were ordered by the Democrat more to enhance his troubled reelection plans, than because they would enhance the cause of crushing terrorist forces in Afghanistan.Afghan war US Sgt William Bee ducks just in time, file

Under questioning, Gen. Petraeus admitted today, “The ultimate [drawdown] decision was a more aggressive formulation, if you will, in terms of the timeline than what we had recommended.”

As previously noted, this not only has the potential to backfire, but a high probability of it. And it couldn’t happen to a more deserving politician.

  1. You know, there’s a weird rats scurrying for the scuppers feel lately among the usual useful idiots. I’m changing my recommendation on Obama stock from Hold to Sell.

  2. I don’t care.
    Obama is awesome.

I for one predict that the above is the overwhelming reaction by the electorate.

  3. Obama is lile Lucy and Ethyl in the Pie Factory when the line speeds up faster than they can handle it.

Sooner or later they run out of places to hide the pies and they start throwing them.

I am just waiting for the manager (the American Public) to walk in and take a pie to the face and realize the farce is up.

That’s right, Obama is great…..better than Cats…..I will vote for him again and again.

  5. Um Josh, I think you need to up the sensitivity of your snark detector. I think philw is channeling that computer-speech-synthesis-cartoon of Broccoli Man debating the Evil Genius threatening to dunk him into boiling water.

  6. Josh,

I almost snorted catfish out of my nose at that (yes, I’m at work having lunch while reading this). I haven’t seen a reference to that sketch in a loooong time (I presume that’s a Saturday Night Live reference, but it’s possible it’s been used elsewhere).
