  1. That’ll leave a mark.

I wonder how long until the NRLB’s actions lead to non right-to-work states building border walls to keep people in, just like East Germany?

  2. Oh, wait now. Right -to work states aren’t all that great either. Back in my youth I worked in both RTW states and union states. My experience is that the RTW states have a much higher instance of breaking basic Wage and Hour and OT rules.

I’m not advocating for the unions mind you, but there is a mind set in these states that employers are above the law. And, personally, I think it’s because they know there will be no collective bargaining.

And I’ve been stuck on both sides of this too. Fighting for my rightfully earned wages on several occasions. And once I was the manager of a place where the owner thought HE got to decide whether to pay OT after 40 hours, based on the quality / quantity of the work done.

I don’t think there is a BEST system from an employee stand point. There are good employers and there are bad employers and I just wish there were fewer of the latter. I’ve certainly tried to kill off the bad guys when I could via word of mouth and steering people away from there businesses.

That’s a leap. It’s a union-controlled environment versus a state controlled one. Hard to see a net win that overcomes the overall productivity of the workforce. Which favors RTW.

  4. I tend to suspect every employer every where and any time will try to screw their employees. When I was a kid I pointed out a discrepancy with my time card. My boss then paid me for more hours than I worked. I said nothing even though I could add both positive and negative. I realized he did it because he shortchanged all his employees time cards and just wanted to shut me up. It worked, to my eternal shame.

If somebody is underpaid they should look for a new job. This is the only thing that will put upward pressure on pay without cutting back on jobs that paying too much for them does. If we want better pay, having employers employ more people does that.

Any government involvement makes work unfair. Unions are just another form of government. Employers can’t continue to treat employees poorly when another employer is looking to take those people as their own. Companies move from state to state because they depend on a supply of employees, not just cheaper labor.

Perhaps people should think of the prospects for their children before having them?
