  1. “…October 31 has brought the usual doom-and-gloom predictions about famine, resource scarcity, and poverty.”

Yeah and if you look at most of the countries that have famine and hunger they are in countries run by murdering, thieving, war lords, tribal leaders, and other totalitarian types. And those people, like Mubarak, Arafat, that loon with the hair in NK, et al, are not only NOT hungry they are rich as hell.

And with damned few exceptions they got rich off of us (spelled U.S.) and other western countries.

Think of all the money that went to Haiti after the earthquake. Private donations ALONE to Haiti came to almost $2500 per head down there. What would that economy look like if every one had the equivalent of 2 years pay all at once?

But it went in there via NGO’s and that trick never works!

  2. Trent,
that would be almost everyone in this day and age. But people being hungry isn’t from a lack of food now anyway. See my rant above.

    1. They did a remake. Spoiler: it’s still people. They said they’d change the recipe, but they didn’t.

  3. Trent,
I misread your comment as saying how much food is in a grocery here.

    Andrea,
I love that flick. It’s on my Top Ten List of sci fi movies.

5 billion was once the tragic number it seems to me too. I remember Jacques Cousteau saying on one of the NGO Specials in the ’70s, that if the population EVER got to 5 billion we’d all be starved for space, food, water “…and maybe even the air we breathe,” all in his fatherly French accent.

I was a little short of breath just yesterday. Now it could be from that 7 billionth child, or it could be the combination of my age, my stuffy nose, and chasing my dog around for a little exercise.

Silly me, I’m going with the age, nose, dog thing.

    1. How can you chase your dog around with all those people in your yard? Also, I’m surprised no one carried off the dog for food in these starving times. Hey, are you going to eat that? [/soylentgreenispeople!]
