  1. You know how some risky endeavors–skydiving, for instance–require you to sign forms where you assume the risk of what you’re doing? We should have the same idea as an option for citizenship. After, say, 25, you can waive your rights to safety nets, etc. by signing an assumption of risk document. Ideally, that would also mean opting out of paying for such things, too.

    1. My wife and I were married while in college. She was a foreign student. When we went to apply for her green card (which wasn’t green), we had to sign papers that stated if we went on public assistance at any time for any reason, she was subject to being deported. This was in 1983. I wonder what has happened since then since quite a few immigrants (legal or otherwise) seem to end up on public assistance.

  2. At a San Francisco fund-raiser last week, President Obama warned the audience that if he’s not re-elected, it will bring a new era of self-reliance in America.

    You have to realize how terrifying that must be to someone like Obama. He’s never had a real-world job in his life. When people can rely on themselves, they have little need for community organizers.
