  1. Due in no small part to Davis-Bacon, big infrastructure spending = big union labor jobs. Repeal Davis-Bacon (an act enacted to protect union jobs against minorities) and I’ll bet you see fewer stories about crumbling infrastructure.

  2. A big part of the problem is that it’s politically sexy to build new bridges or help people to recover from disasters. It’s not sexy to maintain existing infrastructure or make sure a region is prepared for a disaster.

  3. It’s been “crumbling” since I tuned into politics in the late 70’s. I suppose it’s effective for young voters or those with long term memory problems.
