What is most interesting is that they aren’t even mincing words anymore. They do not claim they need nuclear power, like Iran does, they just claimed they need nuclear weapons. Lessons learned from Iraq and Libya I guess. This is a despotic regime not interested in regime change after all. Alliances also vary according to circumstances. If the tar sands reserves in Canada and Venezuela are explored to their fullest Saudi Arabia stands to lose much of its influence. The simple fact is the USA or even the entire West can survive very well just exploring the oil resource in the Americas.
