  1. Back during the Great Depression, big things were accomplished in a short amount of time. The Empire State Building was built in less than 2 years. Massive dam projects were undertaken and completed. These and similar projects could not be completed in a reasonable amount of time or at all in today’s political environment. Ten years after the 9/11 attacks, the replacement building still isn’t finished. Environmental impact statements and the related hearings drag on for years. Necessary infrastructure like dams are being demolished instead of built. Oil projects are being hindered or delayed due to polotical influence.

As long as these things continue, America’s economy will suffer. No one wants dirty air or water but the enviromental regulations have passed the point of diminishing returns.

  2. How long did the Roman empire’s or Haiti’s depression last? With failed policies indefinitely in place, a depression can become the normal condition.
