  1. A point that i’ve seen made was that Scott used Mongolian ponies on his expedition. Dogs offer an advantage that Scott didn’t have. If things go relly bad, you can kill some of the dogs and feed the meat to the others. You can’t do that with ponies.

  2. For an account of Scott’s fatal South Pole expedition, I highly recommend a book titled “The Worst Journey in the World,” by Apsley Cherry-Garrard, a member of the expedition who was in the last support group to turn back to base camp while Scott’s pole party of 5 continued on.
