        1. Or Ruby Ridge, or Elian Gonzalez, or dropping the ball on the 1993 WTC bombing, ‘the wall’…

Hum. All that, and now I’m thinking about Eric Holder. Sheisse.

          1. Al, I hate to tell you this, but the atrocity at Ruby Ridge was committed under the administration of George Bush the elder, in 1992. I have no doubt that if he had won re-election, he would have approved of the massacre at Waco. After all, the Blimp That is Rush Limbaugh approved of it.

  1. Gingrich isn’t the second coming of Ronald Reagan, but he routinely received/receives high ratings (80-100 percent) from practically every right wing group that handed out political ratings.

There isn’t a Reagan in the field, there isn’t a Reagan outside the field that could jump in at this point. Gingrich is as right wing as the GOP is going to find at this point.

  2. This blog is “transterrestrial musings.” I did hear a very young Congressman Gingrich at the Houston ISDC in 1983. He has spent more time thinking space than all the previous White House occupants since Johnson times ten. Whether he would make good policy with all his knowledge is unknown.

  3. I was on a teleconference with a lot of military veterans, Newt and several thousand other people earlier this week, and one of the callers asked about space policy. Newt said he wants it entrepreneurial-based, with incentives from government to encourage innovation from the private sector. Newt was very clear that he does not favor a bureaucracy like NASA, which he called a complete failure and an expensive complete failure.

If you want to know more about the , IMO exciting, propsoals Newt is making to unleash the genius and energy of the American People to restore our government to the small, Constitutionally-based federal government we are meant to have, and a return of power to local home towns and states and individuals, under the 10th Amendment, to name just tow of the initiatives, watch Newt’s speeches.

The idea that Newt is not conservative seems far-fetched to me.

The other thing Newt is, Newt is a visionary. He is also a practical man who studies the needs of manufacturing, the military, aerospace, engineering and other functions that are essential in a vibrant, prosperous economy and healthy national entity. He also works very hard and is very steady.

Think about who is trying to destroy Newt’s candidacy.

Sununu, who advised H.W. Bush to go ahead and raise taxes, no big deal, who was responsible fo Souter, who had to resign when it turned out he was tooling around in government jets more than could be ascribed to work, and took a government limo to a stamp auction (I think, in the middle of a work day, but I don’t remember that for sure.)

Sununu, oh, the conservative from New England, Yeah.

Who has publicly threatened the Las Vegas guy who gave Newt money, saying do you think we forget who doesn’t support us. this is Chicago thuggery practiced by thuggery-lite on Romney’s behalf.

Also, G. H. W. Bush, the one who so little understood the pact he had made with the American people, that when he was urged to raise taxes after “read my lips,” he was snookered by the Democrats. Only Newt told them it was a trap.

Only Newt refused to go along with it.

This is vendetta, big time. They thought they had gotten rid of Newt in 1999, for good.

They are trying to destroy Newt’s candidacy because Newt is a genuine agent for change who will break up the Establishment because WE THE PEOPLE are going to break up the Establishment if we like Newt’s proposals.

You have to listen to the speeches for a while to get the big picture. It’s fun to listen. You will most likely learn things. You can listen on the treadmill or outside walking the dog, if you have a smartphone.

I think it’s great to start with “2012: VICTORY OR DEATH,” about George Washington and his small American Army on Christmas Eve in 1776, the night they crossed the Delaware, and their password was, “victory or death.” That was the password, because the American Army was failing, and Washington understood, and they all understood, that if the Americans did not win the war, the British would put them all to death.

This story reminds me of all I owe to those who have come before me, who have given so much so that I might live in this golden FREEDOM in America.

We owe them and all the others who have sustained our freedoms before us, NOT to let these miserable small cramped people in Washington effectual a coup d’etat against the American People from within the current, lawless, administration.

To find out if there is something you can support in this awakening of the genius and energy of the American People, watch Newt’s speeches.

  5. As far as Gingrich is concerned, I simply don’t trust him. He broke the marriage convenant, the fundamental block of society. If he can’t be trusted in his personal dealings, how can I trust him on other things.
His photo shoot with Pelosi, and so much more, IMHO disqualifies him from any elected office.
Here’s a link to what a “genuine” conservative says about the Newt:
    http://www.chroniclesmagazine.org/2012/01/09/newt-the-democratic-mole/
The neo-cons love him, but we more traditional conservatives despise him.

  6. But really, if the race comes down to Newt vs. O(bama what real choice do we have? Four more years of Rev. Wright’s altar boy?

    1. But if you pick Newt all you get is Newt. Obama comes as part of a team, like the Bill and Hillary but with style!

What, you don’t like Moobacca? I would think space fanatics would be proud to have a First Wookie of the United States.

  7. I think that Jerry Pournelle, who has known Gingrich for decades, has the best take on him: he’s often the smartest and most articulate person in the room, but he may not have the temperament to be a good President. Pournelle uses an old military adage: you want your staff officers to be smart-active, so that they’ll come up with lots of ideas, some of which will be brilliant; but you want your commanding generals to be smart-lazy, so that they’ll be able to judge between the staff officers’ ideas and only implement the best, otherwise you drive the troops crazy with too much churn and hence nothing actually gets accomplished. Gingrich definitely falls into the smart-active group. (The other groups are dumb-active and dumb-dumb; guess which one our current POTUS falls into?)

I don’t always agree with Jerry Pournelle, but it is always valuable to know what he’s thinking.

    1. and, if it wasn’t clear, I would definitely prefer Gingrich (warts and all, including his ill-advised crack about atheists like me) to the current POTUS; not sure I can say the same about Santorum or Romney – Santorum because of his holier-than-thou social positions, and Romney because, well, there’s just no there there.

      1. (need edit button…need edit button)
But I would probably end up voting for either Santorum or Romney (or Paul) because the next POTUS will likely get to appoint at least two SCOTUS justices; we don’t need no stinking Sotomayor or Kagan…

        1. That pretty much sums up what everyone is thinking. No one is going to get their preferred candidate and there is a lot of internal debate about who will suck the least but it all noils down to ABO.
