  1. What’s more breathtaking is the fact that the intellectual arrogance is exuded by one so lacking in intellect…

  2. Yes, well, arrogance anyway. The thrust of the article is frankly jejune. Not much intellect on display.

I know I’ve violated this rule here lately, but I prefer not to discuss climatology with anyone whose understanding of it derives completely from their political point of view. And that seems to be the case with David Roberts.

  3. So, basically, they’ll wait for all the old guys who disagree with them to die off, while running anyone at the grad-student level and up who doesn’t toe the line out of the field for thoughtcrime. Yessir, that’s how you do ‘climate science’!

  4. Who would have thought the author would blame old white men and long for a better time when they are all dead. If only there was a term we could use to describe beliefs like this.

    1. If only there was a term we could use to describe beliefs like this.

It depends if the guy plans to wait for natural causes or not.

  5. From the comments:

to bitter disgruntled denialists, if faux news/koch bros/GOP attempts to paint over with a broad discriminatory derogatory condescending brush millions of disgruntled left out americans and former middle class who are literally f**(ed by mittens’ top 1%ers sucking up all wealth and pi$$ing on everybody and calling it trickle down while calling 99% of americans ‘dirty hippies’ while koch bros throw 100 million at mittens in order to buy the presidency after citizens vs. united, dont whine now about stereotypes of typical out of touch denialists.

Yep, they’ll be loading us in boxcars the first chance they get. They can hardly wait.

    1. The fundamental problem that they’re facing is that they’ll be facing an armed populace, and we’re not afraid to shoot first and ask questions never.

Well, fundamental problem for them. Me? That’s not a bug, that’s a feature.

  6. Eh, he’s right. Cohort replacement brought down the Soviet Union. And, it will spell the end of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Communist regime in China.

But, it generally flows in the direction of freedom from the strictures of the old guard. Roberts is an heir or echo of an old guard that already got zapped by cohort replacement.

  7. Wow. Very entertaining read Rand, thanks for posting.

cohort replacement … will increase the Democrats’ margin over the GOP by an additional two and a half percentage points in 2012 and then by another two and a half points in 2016.

    Compared to what, 2010? LOL

If you reject government, academia, science, and media as sources of information, you are left to believe any old sh*t that gives you a squirt of dopamine. You’re left without exogenous epistemological standards of any kind; you can believe whatever feels right. In short, you have achieved perfect epistemic closure.

That thing is worthy of a masters thesis. Let’s spend trillions of dollars and create new global government regimes because it’s the thinking mans “solution” to the “problem”. If you are opposed, you’re motivated only by “feelings”. Epistemic closure!!

  8. Yep, they’ll be loading us in boxcars the first chance they get. They can hardly wait.

The dog could hardly wait to catch the car it was chasing too. We all know how that turned out.

  9. But they do die!

His eliminationist fantasy is missing one essential ingredient: the requisite Logan’s Run scenario to prevent the future creation of “old conservative white men.” His camp folded too quickly on the “death panel” issue.

  10. His camp folded too quickly on the “death panel” issue.

You think so? I bet they just gave it a different name.

    1. IPAB? Maybe…

Also, for moral clarity, whenever I see or hear one of these bigoted rants, I just replace “evil white men” with “kulak” or “jew.”
