Gene Kaprowski from the Daily Caller interviewed me on Monday afternoon. This is the result.
[Update a few minutes later]
It’s both amusing and depressing to read through the post comments, and note that absolutely none of them have anything to do with space. It’s all about the election and the Tea Party. This doesn’t bode well for having a space-policy discussion this year.
Crowd Funding World is another thin alias for GM, the space genius.
the public doesn’t care. This is a policy area where our leaders actually have to provide leadership. which they can’t or won’t do.
It’s good to see your CEI article is getting wider circulation. Hopefully it will get more people to give this topic more thought.
You might want to correct the author on this point:
Entrepreneurs such as Sir Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Atlantic Airlines, are already moving forward with plans to commercialize space, offering wealthy vacationers commercial flights — that may start as soon as later this year — from New Mexico to low earth orbit.
Ah, no on both parts. Virgin Galactic commercial operations aren’t likely to begin this year. To date, they still have not flown a single powered flight. They still have an extensive flight test program ahead before they begin carrying paying passengers. And they won’t be going into LEO either.
So Rand, per the new Weekly Standard item, when are you and P. J. O’Rourke going to have a drink?
What item is that? All I see is this older article.
It’s this one – “Candidates in Orbit: The late, great U.S. space program.” – The Weekly Standard [publication date is listed as ‘April 9, 2012.’]
Rand, I shouldn’t be too fussed about the comments over there. Alas, we have annual deficits over $1 trillion every year, 8%+ unemployment, QE1, QE2, etc…
Folks will be (quite naturally) focused on bread & butter issues for the next couple of years.
I do note that Mittens seems, from the quotes in the article, to have a distorted idea of private space exploration.
