  1. Romney will win by a landslide similar to Reagan-Carter in 1980.

That’s silly. There’s no way Romney wins CA, IL, NY, WA or MD. That’s almost half of what’s required right there.

Is there one major group where Obama has gained since 2008?

Yes. He’ll win the majority of votes among people who didn’t vote 4 years ago because they weren’t old enough. He’s right that the number of people who voted for McCain and will switch to Obama this year is infinitesimal. But that just comes out of Obama’s margin, which is large. Romney only wins if the number of people who switch to him this year is larger than the sum of Obama’s margin of 4 years ago and his winning margin among the 18-22 year olds.

And I don’t know where Root lives but if it’s somewhere like CO, or NV, or IA, I’d like to point out to him that holding his nose and voting for Romney might make a little more sense.

    1. In WA state, we -still- have war protestors.

Meaning: The liberals here (aka most every single person I see in a week in Seattle) are so far to the Left they’re mighty ticked at most every single thing Obama’s done. Except kill Keystone. (And they grumble about -that- because he keeps making noises as if he were actually in favor if the idea with better details.)

They absolutely don’t want Romney. But. Enthusiasm seems completely missing near me.

      1. Not saying “Obama will lose WA” just that there’s a distinct disconnect between the clear 10+% edge if everyone showed up, and where we are now.

      2. The problem in WA is similar to a lot of western states. The lack of a viable green party and a charismatic leader. Picture a Nehemiah Scudder who worships mother earth. And who had a serious fallout with the Democratic party. That would create a civil war that would change the whole landscape.

        1. This suggests false flag operations would be the best bet against Obama. This is something done last election here in AZ. The right recruited bums right off the street to take the lefts positions and they did draw votes.

          1. You might think that Ken.

But Seattle does this every time:
            1) Line up 7+ kooks who are aiming to prove “I’m farther to the Left than Lenin!” to compete with the old mayor. In a ‘Non-partisan election’, so they don’t have to put “G, S, M, C”, or their own made-up party affiliation on the form.

            2) Vote for whoever was farthest to the Left.
            3) Spend several years complaining about the lack of Skittle-making unicorns and the failure to push through repeals of tiny little laws like all three Laws of Thermo.
            4) Decide this guy must be a freaking centrist, so… back to step #1.

            That is:
A false-flag bum could get elected. And has. But he wasn’t a Republican. (IIRC, he’s openly admitted to a Marxist outlook, but he didn’t have to declare a party.)

          2. The assumption is it’s somebody that can’t possibly win, but there is certainly that danger. Perhaps we should just give them all water wings and tell them there’s free stuff a few miles off the ocean shore?

  2. While I agree with Root’s logic overall, there is always the problem of the wildcard, the stupid thing during campaign season that doesn’t really matter but that everyone focuses on, especially the media, who will want and sponsor said stupid thing to help their guy. Last time, it was whatever out-of-context remarks Palin made and that I don’t even remember anymore.

The economy? Health care? What’s that?

  3. I work in DC, the only place one would expect Obama to have solidly in his pocket. They’re done with him. Not all for the reasons the rest of us are, but it doesn’t matter….

  4. My vote will go to Libertarian Presidential candidate…

    Are you kidding me?

Is he really saying that he doesn’t care if Obama gets reelected? Is he saying that there is NO difference between Obama and Romney? Really? Does he not realize what is riding on this election? It is pretty lame that he (and libertarians in general) count on the rest of us to carry the day (and deliver a “landslide”).

Libertarians: please do not assume that Romney will win without your support. As we have seen in election after election, just a small number of votes can determine the outcome. Argue away for your positions. But don’t waste a precious vote that may be needed to assure that Obama is defeated (unless, of course, you support Obama). Whether you like it or not, this is a binary decision; it is either Romney or Obama. There is but ONE way to effectively vote against Obama, and that is to vote for Romney, whether you like it or not. It is time to join forces and this leader of the Libertarian party should be calling for just that.

  5. I still can’t imagine Obama being elected the first time. I think this means we’ve already gone over the cliff but haven’t looked down yet (will Wile E. never learn not to look down?)

Will Mitt take us back to solid ground before the fall? I doubt it. Obama is still going to have a ground game and still going to get a lot of the people that are blind to what he is (14-17 four years later and other non-adult adults.)

    I’m depressed. It’s a lose-lose situation.

    1. Ken, you must simply embrace the reality that there is no political solution to the mess we’re in. Your expectations cannot be shattered if you have no expectations.

      1. That’s true. Part of the reason I now live at 7000ft, 50 miles from anywhere. I really have no clue how it will all turn out. This may be why I focus on mars???

I am trying to learn how to be selfish, but it doesn’t come naturally.
